Great tool for Streamers
It’s a great start to mobile character sheets and creation! I’m part of a group that streams our games and we depend on my end to run the stream. So as it is, I use a dual setup to monitor the stream and talk with the party. With the app, I can use my phone to look at my character sheet and still monitor the stream without dipping out of my webcam frame to reopen my sheet on my stream screen.
However, I’d like to have options to edit characters that have already been made. But for day one of release, it’s not bad! I’m excited to see what new options come from updates!
Love it and if you love DnDB, you should too
First, let’s get one thing out of the way: buying physical copies of the books does not entitle you to all the content on DnDBeyond. I am amazed that I am still seeing that nonsense, years after they started licensing the digital content. This is a companion app for DnDBeyond and you only have access to what you have purchased through DnDBeyond. Okay? Get it? Alright, let’s move on. Yeesh.
Day 1, the app was stable, though it lacked some features. This was completely fine though, because the app itself linked to your characters on DnDBeyond when you needed to access features that you cannot yet access on the app. The new features are coming, and so far quickly as there have already been significant additions since release just a few days ago like editable hitpoints. No crashes and full features with internet makes this a great start. Being able to fully unplug is on the horizon.
It’s also pretty fast. Not as fast as the website at the time of posting, but fast enough to only barely be noticeable. Another win. Overall, I am very satisfied. I do have only one critique and it’s for tablet use.
The app treats the tablet like a wide phone, so that does leave a lot of empty space. I hope that future updates moves it to be much like the website. The website on my phone and iPad are very different, but given the device they operate on, it’s hard to say that one is better than the other. That is all. Thanks, DnDB and Fandom Inc!
Finally! Then they rolled a 1
Finally! I was so excited for the app, that I had to be one of the first to write a review. Then, I actually went into the app to figure out it’s not a standalone app. Howso? The character sheet is awesome. Sadly, all that time to create the dice roller went to waste on the website and hopefully you will incorporate it here. Don’t be so discouraged as the next reason people want an app did not happen. It’s still web based when you create a character, so it’s not just linked but it’s a skin of the website. So you can access the website via the app and get to the dice roller, btw just stay in website view to use your character sheet as the app isn’t fully functional. Really disappointed. To help this along, here is a suggestion, have it linked to pull information from DND Beyond app, to create characters while not online, we already downloaded all that info.
7/8 I like the descriptions added for conditions. Quick tip for others: you can select the link to view you online character sheet within a slightly smaller window, at least it will make you feel like your using the app and you can have access to the dice roller.
