This release fixes an iPad that could become unresponsive after returning to a session, and a crash when adding a student to a clinic. Returning to a session When the app is closed while a supervisor is signed in, whether by a force-quit, a restart, or an App Store update installing underneath it, the next launch returns to that session. Until now it announced this with a message box that had to be dismissed with OK. On some iPads on iPadOS 26 and 27 nothing on the screen responded from that point, the OK button included, and every relaunch brought the same message back, so the iPad could not be used at all. The message box is gone. The same information now appears for a few seconds as a strip along the top of the screen, which needs no tap and does not get in the way. The session itself is restored exactly as before. The app also records a short note about the state of the screen when it returns to a session, so that if an iPad is ever unresponsive again the diagnostic upload will show what was in the way. Adding a student Adding a student to a clinic from the iPad could close the app while it moved the list to the new row. It now checks the list before moving to the row, and reloads it instead if the two disagree. If you have any questions, please contact support quoting version 1.5.42.

This release fixes an iPad that could lose its server address and report an Authentication Error on every sync, makes the unrated-section warning name each section so it can be found, stops "Assist only" and "Observe only" both being on for the same section, makes sure a switch turned off after a sync reaches the server, explains an empty Add Sections list on Phantom Head clinics, and fixes seven crashes reported from versions 1.5.39 and 1.5.40. Authentication Error on every sync An iPad that lost its stored server address could fall back to the wrong address, be refused by it, and show "Authentication Error" on every sync until support reconfigured it. The app now keeps a second copy of the address outside the store that was lost, and also uses the address held in its synced data, so it finds its way back to the right server on its own. A refusal that does not come from the LIFTUPP server is no longer reported as an authentication problem. Since iPadOS 15 the system can start an app in the background while the iPad is still locked, when its secure storage cannot be read. The app no longer treats that as a fault, and reads its identity once the iPad is unlocked. Finding the sections that still need a rating Since version 1.5.37 a clinic cannot be signed out of while a section has data recorded but no rating, because such a section never appears in reports. The warning listed each section on one line, which with long form names was hard to read. Each section is now shown as three labelled lines, Student, Form and Section, and the message says what to do: rate at least one question in the section, or remove it with the section's Clear or Delete button. The same check now runs when the assessor taps Feedback on a student's overview, before the iPad is handed to the student. Once a student has signed off their feedback their data can no longer be changed, so the assessor is stopped while they can still act on it. The check on the student's Confirm button stays as a backstop. "Assist only" and "Observe only" These two switches could both be on for the same section, which reports then counted as both assisted and observed. Turning one on now turns the other off. The rule comes from the server, so similar rules can be added later without a new version of the app. Switches turned off after a sync When a switch such as "Assist only" was turned on, synced, and then turned off again, the change back to off usually never reached the server. The same was true of a rating cleared after a sync. Both now upload like any other change. Add Sections on Phantom Head clinics Tapping Add Sections in a Phantom Head clinic could open an empty list, which looked as though nothing had happened. Only forms with a section that has procedures, materials, a maximum difficulty or a quadrant and tooth can have a section added to every student, and some Phantom Head activities have no such form. The list now says so. Crashes fixed Seven crashes first reported from versions 1.5.39 and 1.5.40 are fixed. The most common was opening the panel from the supervisor's name in the top left while the student search was open. The others were in the sync screen after an institution change, the clinic filters, the student list, the form list, and two places where the app closed while preparing an error message instead of showing it. Building tools The app is also brought up to date with the current iPadOS building tools. Some of the code it relies on used features Apple has marked as out of date. None had stopped working, but leaving them in place makes future iPadOS updates riskier. Each is replaced with the current equivalent, chosen so the app behaves exactly as before. This release fixes the clinics that could not be signed out of on iPadOS 26, makes the one time repair introduced in version 1.5.39 much quicker, lets staff type letters into the patient number field where their patient numbers contain them, and shows you when the iPad is sending diagnostic information to support. A much quicker one time repair Version 1.5.39 asked each iPad to re-send its records once so that any assessments stored without their patient details could be matched back up. On iPads holding a lot of work that took far longer than it should, and some sites saw a progress screen for around half an hour on the first launch after updating. The re-send was carrying the full contents of every form when the server only needs the form and its patient details to repair the link. It now sends only what is needed, which is roughly a twentieth of the previous amount. Any iPad that has not yet finished this repair will get through it far more quickly after updating. Nothing has changed about what is repaired or how, and no assessment data is lost or skipped. If your iPads have already completed the repair, you will not see it again. Patient numbers that contain letters The keyboard offered for the patient number field was chosen from a fixed list of sites rather than from the patient number format itself. Where a site was not on that list, the iPad offered a digits only keypad even though its patient numbers contain letters, so those numbers could not be typed at all. The app now reads the patient number format and offers a keyboard that can type everything the format allows. Sites whose patient numbers are digits only keep the number keypad exactly as before. On iPads running iPadOS 26, the number keypad appears as a small floating panel rather than a full keyboard. That is a change Apple made in iPadOS, not something in LIFTUPP. Where the app asks for the number keypad it now requests the full size version, so the keyboard looks the way it always has. Seeing when diagnostics are being sent When support asks an iPad to send its database and logs, that upload used to run silently. There was no way to tell whether it had started, finished or failed, which made it hard to confirm that a support request had actually been answered. The iPad now shows a message while the upload is running, with its progress, and confirms when it has finished. If it fails it says so and tries again on the next sync. The About screen also shows the date of the last upload and whether it succeeded, so the result is still available after the message has gone. The screen is kept awake for the duration, so an upload left running will now complete rather than stopping when the iPad locks. Clinics that could not be signed out of Since iPadOS 26, some supervisors found that at the end of a clinic the iPad showed only their name in the top left, and tapping it did nothing, so the clinic could not be signed out of or synced. iPadOS 26 changed how the bar at the top of the screen handles a name that is too long to fit: it hides the name behind a "..." button, and the sign out panel could not open from there. This affected supervisors with longer names, and the iPads they had used stayed stuck until the app was updated. Three things have changed. The name shown in the top left is now shortened when it would not fit, so it always stays a button that opens the panel. The panel itself no longer depends on that button to open. And the toolbar at the bottom of the student list now has its own Sign Out button, so there is always a second way to end a clinic. If you have an iPad holding a clinic you have not been able to close, updating to this version will let you close it and sync it. No work recorded on those iPads has been lost. This release makes sure re-sent records keep their patient details, and brings back an option that stopped appearing in version 1.5.37. Keeping patient details with re-sent records Occasionally a device is asked to re-send its records to the server, usually after a support request. Before this version, the forms were re-sent without the patient details that belong with them, so on reports those assessments could show no patient. Re-sent records now always include their patient details. The first time you open the app after updating, it will re-send its records once to repair any forms this affected. Records already on the server are matched back to their patients automatically. You may see a sync progress screen while this happens; please let it finish. Signing out for a colleague who has left When a member of staff finishes a clinic and forgets to sign out, the next person to pick up the iPad can close it for them. They choose "Previous Staff Left", select their own name from the staff list and enter their own PIN. Both names are recorded against the session. Version 1.5.37 added a check that every section has a rating recorded before a clinic can be signed out of. Where a section was still unrated, that check appeared in place of the sign out options, so "Previous Staff Left" was never offered. The only way past it asked for the PIN of the member of staff who had already gone home, which nobody else can enter. Rating the sections is still the right thing to do and is still the first option offered. Alongside it, the check now offers "Previous Staff Left" for whoever has taken over the iPad, and "Sign out anyway" for the supervisor whose own clinic it is. Whichever is used, the PIN asked for belongs to the person actually holding the iPad, and who signed out is recorded either way. If you have an iPad holding a clinic you have not been able to close, updating to this version will let you close it. A button with no wording In version 1.5.38, the button for signing out with sections still unrated showed internal text instead of a label. It now reads "Sign out anyway". This release fixes a problem introduced in version 1.5.37. Signing out of a clinic Version 1.5.37 added a check that every section has a rating recorded before you can sign out of a clinic. That check was also counting students who had already signed out. Their work can no longer be opened or changed, so there was no way to add the missing rating, and the clinic could not be signed out of at all. The check now applies only to students who are still in the clinic, where the section can still be completed. If you have an iPad that is stuck in a clinic, updating to this version will release it. Any work recorded on that iPad is still there and will sync as normal once the clinic has been signed out of. Overriding the check A supervisor can now enter their PIN to sign out of a clinic that still has sections without ratings. Rating them remains the right thing to do and stays the default, but the check can no longer stop a clinic being closed. We are sorry for the disruption this caused. This release focuses on reliability and on making sure completed work is recorded correctly. Sign-out now checks your sections When signing out of a clinic, the app now checks that every section has at least one rating recorded. Previously a section could be left with no ratings at all - the work looked complete on the iPad, but the section did not appear in reporting afterwards. If anything has been missed you will now be told before you sign out. Clearing a student's present/absent mark The cross on the attendance control now clears a student's present or absent mark properly. Previously it appeared to clear and then reverted. Fixes • Searching the student list no longer causes the app to close, and the list no longer flickers as you type. • Moving quickly between assessment forms, or tapping a section heading while the screen is still changing, no longer causes the app to close. • Work recorded while the iPad is locked is no longer at risk of being lost. The app now keeps those changes and saves them at the next opportunity. Institution settings An iPad is set up for a single institution when it is first activated. This version adds safeguards so that setting can only be changed deliberately, on the device, by a person. Settings received from our servers are now checked before being applied. No action is needed — devices already set up correctly are unaffected. Fixed an issue where the app could become stuck on the launch screen after upgrading from older versions. iPads with large amounts of historical data could fail to start due to a lengthy data migration running during launch. We've resolved a number of issues reported through crash diagnostics to make LIFTUPP more reliable, particularly during synchronisation: - Fixed crashes during Data Recovery sync — Users running the data recovery process could experience a crash when processing large numbers of assessments. This has been resolved. - Fixed a crash that could occur during routine sync — An intermittent issue where the app could crash mid-sync due to stale internal data has been addressed. - Fixed a crash when navigating to student profiles — Quickly tapping on a student while a previous screen was still loading could cause a crash.
