Description

Note: To use this app, you will need a Dirac capable device. This device must additionally support connecting a microphone - you cannot use your phone as a microphone with this app. If your device does not support a microphone, instead use the desktop version.

No matter how much you’ve invested in your sound system, your room will always have an impact on the sound quality – an all-too-often overlooked fact. Dirac Live Room Correction deals with these challenges in a unique way by addressing the issues that no other product on the market can. That’s why Dirac Live has been adopted by the world’s leading manufacturers of high-end audio-video equipment and praised by audiophiles and music creators all over the world.

Room correction solutions have been around for decades. But we at Dirac realize these only act as advanced equalizers, smoothing the frequency curve but totally missing the timing aspect. Room reflections and misaligned speakers will cause sounds to arrive at your ears with different time delays, blurring the sound image.

With Dirac Live® you’ll experience three key benefits:
1. Improved localization of sound events, or staging.
2. Better clarity and intelligibility in both music and speech.
3. A deeper, tighter bass response, free of resonance throughout the entire listening area.

Dirac Live on iOS provides a richer user experience and better interactivity compared to using an on-screen display with remote control.

For existing users of Dirac Live on iOS, you will enjoy the following enhancements:
1. A new and unique algorithm that tailors the target curve to your room and sound system.
2. A tool that lets you design your sound profile by adjusting two bars with your fingertips.
3. A simplified calibration process with fewer steps.

Dirac Live® makes use of QT. QT is licensed under LGPLv3. For more information about Dirac Live please visit https://www.dirac.com/live/

Missing key features from the desktop app

I recently bought a new Onkyo AVR in part because it includes Dirac Live “Full Bandwidth.” I ran the setup through the app, but the result was terrible: The gain on my subwoofer was cranked way up, rattling my furniture on every drumbeat. I decided to shell out $$$ for the Dirac Live “Bass Control” upgrade, then ran through the setup again. Same result. Turns out Bass Control requires the Windows/Mac app, not the mobile app. That wasn’t clearly indicated when I bought the add-on.

If you have a computer, skip the mobile app and go straight for the desktop app. It offers more options and (slightly) clearer explanations for each step of the setup process. (And FWIW the Bass Control add-on fixed the subwoofer gain issue, but I sure feel nickel-and-dimed…)

Why is this even here?

Downloaded the iOS app as instructed in the QuickStart guide that came with my NAD M33. After creating a new account I am immediately instructed that I must download and use the MacOS app. What a waste of time!

Logged out and back in to the iOS app and finally got to the measurement section. Despite the test signal being deafening and worrying it might blow my Martin Logans, the app complains the s/n is too low. There is no discernible background noise in the room. Useless. Will try the MacOS app and hope for a better experience.

Horror!

This app is just awful. For streets the descriptions are super brief , as if it was a bad foreign language translation. Next, it will not work as described. An error message that the “volume is too high” by then it instructs you to “turn up the volume” and try again. I’m super confused. This is 100% garbage! I think it might even be risky to run this on your audio system.
