More in depth than I though

I thought this was just gonna be a simple turn based rogue-like, but I was sorely mistaken. One look the achievements you can get will leave you wondering how you get to certain places to complete said achievements. You can either figure it out on your own or look online for some of them because I still haven’t figured out a few of the paths you can take. I love just how much content there is in this game and how you will eventually find your flow and be able to pick what talents/ weapons you want just by their icon. There’s so many secrets things to explore and I love it.

I’ve seen other people mentioning bugs like your runs disappearing if you don’t play them to completion, but I’ve never run into this problem. After each fight room or whenever you get a break you can hit the settings icon in the bottom right to save and exit the run. As long as you do that you should be good.

Another “bug” people have mention is that you have to wait for an enemy death animation to end so you can attack again. Otherwise you will waste an attack swinging into the air, and while it can be annoying, it’s really easy to get used to.

Overall, it’s a fun and great game that offers quite a bit of replay ability due to all of its talent combos, plethora of weapons and equipment, and several different runs to find.

Great game, but a few flaws.

There are many other positive reviews singing the same praises that I have for this game so I’ll get straight to the point. There are some flaws that mainly have to do with the meta progression of the game, the talents you unlock have the ability to be toggled on or off, however they appear in all my runs once I unlock them no matter what, which would be a fair thing to happen if the ability to toggle them wasn’t an option. And then there is the “bigger vials” upgrade in town that increases potion duration, I have gotten that to level three and the duration of all potions has remained the same, three turns. Finally there’s the tutorial for the game, or lackthereof. At the beginning of every run the game simply tells you what is the attack button, which is one of the only things that is actually obvious about the UI. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING else goes unexplained. In fact there is an entire in game mechanic where you can get bonus resources by looking at the background for barely-visible spots that you must tap on. I only found out about this very useful thing after maybe thirty or more half an hour long runs of the game. All of this and more minor issues are all very infuriating. I do realize of course this is yet to be a 1.0 release so please developers, if you see this review, make these fixes for both current and future players enjoyment.

Great fun, needs polishing

Sometimes the game fumbles with the run continue feature (it occasionally deletes your run if you don’t finish it in one sitting), but overall is a very fun roguelike that is simple to enjoy, intuitive enough to figure out (most of the time) and has a lot more complexity than it lets on, primarily because it won’t tell you much. You will have to figure most things out on your own, which is part of the fun. Though, do keep in mind that holy shrines don’t cleanse *item* curses (which should have been better explained in-game). You have to do something else, but I won’t spoil it.

The game seems to still be improving, so I’d recommend at least installing now, and maybe if you aren’t satisfied with it now, check back in later.
