Peace of Mind

I started noticing my 2012 Prius battery indicator was never showing full bars anymore. I took it to the dealership but they said they weren’t allowed to do the $160 battery diagnostic unless the warning light was on. “Your battery’s fine,” they said. I downloaded this app and paid $29 for the OBDII thingy (see how little I know about cars and technology?) I found that cell 12 is bad and the battery has a 53% life expectancy. So now I know. Now I have something to base decisions regarding the vehicle. THANK YOU to the developers.

Somethings fishy

I unplugged the obd2 (carista) and turned the car off and walked towards my door and noticed that the battery bars were still jumping around. What is it reading in real time when it’s unplugged?

Makes me wonder if any of its real or if we have all been duped to a degree.

Please explain how it kept reading voltages when it wasn’t even connected.

Another thing is why not explain what the ideal number ranges should be at?

Why not just have a little range notation or something to let us novices know what we are looking for generally?

Also doing the battery life test, it has you turn on electrical and keep a needle in a green area on your app by adjusting electrical items. Got down to two purple bars before it completed the test.
Then down to one and the red triangle came on. App still said “almost done.”

I had to rev the engine to charge the car. Pushing your battery low is bad right? Seeing the red triangle is bad right?

Well it finally completed thirty seconds to a minute later and it said the battery was fair.

Said the battery was good yesterday.

Went from 78% to 65%

What’s going on here?

It’s a oem battery with 40,000 miles on it.

Hi there, most likely you are running the Demo mode.
You will have to have an OBD2 adapter in order to connect to the Prius, feel free to visit my site for more detail http://PriusApp.com

If you have a hybrid get it!

Just bought a new 2021 Toyota Sienna that only comes in hybrid now. Developer has been super helpful getting me up and running. Very responsive. Their website has a comparison of OBD II scanners so you don’t buy one that only allows a dedicated app and/or over spend for one.

Although the Sienna is new, I can establish a baseline now and see future trends that might make me bring it into the dealer. Just knowing the percent of charge on the battery and the charge/discharge amperage has helped me better understand how this hybrid system works.

If I need to get a second run around town car I’m going to buy a used Prius and this app will really help me know the state of the battery on a used Prius. That is VERY valuable information when shopping for a used Prius.

Very happy with this app.
