Ad blocker and fast browsing — The Ecosia app is based on Mozilla’s Firefox and gives you an intuitive, fast and secure browsing experience with everything you need, including tabs, incognito mode, bookmarks, downloads, and dark mode. We also show a green leaf beside your results that are pro-environment, helping you make greener choices whilst you search.

Much better than before

From the first time I started using this app to now it changed a LOT. It used to have this bing-fire fox feel to it and it confused the ever living love out of me. But after uninstalling it and coming back to it now it’s so much smoother and feels like it has its own personality instead of using another search engines as it’s face. When you search up anything now it has a beautiful photo to text ratio. For me that’s a huge deal because I’ve gotten so used to googles “quick search” engine. I cook a lot so being able to search up “pancakes” and getting a easy quick photo of what they look like and recipes with a review count makes it so much easier for me. It looks aesthetically pleasing and I’m definitely more satisfied with it now. I can’t wait to see this project grow. I just hope there promise is being held up by the company, But either way as long as the intention is there I’ll keep using this app for my own sake.

Developer Response ,

Hi, thanks for highlighting were we can improve Ecosia and for leaving a comment.

Lil-nun ,

It works I guess

Overall it’s really not a terrible browser, but it’s not very good either. It felt a little clunky to use, and I found that things didn’t load super well on it. The thing I really disliked the most though was their image selection. When you looked up something, a lot of the times the images didn’t correlate, or there was a very minimal selection, which was disappointing.
Also, I used it for almost a week, and the marker that said how many trees you planted never changed for me, it always just stayed at zero. Could be an issue on my part, but if the whole pull of the thing is to be more eco-friendly and to plant trees, then it’s a little disappointing when it doesn’t seem to be happening.
If it’s something you feel strongly about, and you want to stick with it, go for it. Like I said, it’s not a terrible browser, and I love the idea of it, I just feel like the execution could be better.
(Also, I hate to be that person, but I’m a little skeptical if they’re putting their money where their mouth is. It’s a little hard to believe that they can sustainably plant all these trees just from your searches alone. In the end, I feel like it’s better to just stick to another browser.)

ADD ABILITY TO MAKE TEXT BIGGER (from 50%-300% like on Safari)

Why Apple doesn’t allow for you to choose your custom search engine for Safari in 2020 or doesn’t at least have Ecosia as one of the options alongside Google, Yahoo, Bing, and DuckDuckGo boggles me. But I still have to use Safari over this, sadly. The reason being that you can’t make the text bigger like in Safari since the iOS 13 update and if I, as a vision-impaired person, want to be able to read anything without it, I have to zoom in and scroll right and right and right and then there’s new line of text below it so I gotta scroll left and left and left and left to get to the start and then right and right and then again left and left and left and then down and down and so on. But when I make the text as a whole bigger it scrunches all the words to fit on my screen and I just have to scroll down. Listen, I LOOOOOVE Ecosia, and I’ve been using it on my Windows computer since there were 81M trees planted, but this is an ESSENTIAL thing for me on here. I will change my one star-rating to five stars once this issue is addressed.

And on a side note, kind of a big deal for me is the “find on page” feature (like ctrl F), where you search for a certain word and see all the times where it was mentioned on the website. Please add that too.

Dear KoolCroco,

On behalf of the engineering and product teams at Ecosia we apologise for our lack of accessibility options. We want to let you know we are aware we are not doing enough, but we are working hard to resolve this as a top priority.

Hopefully soon you and many more folks will have more and better access to Ecosia.

Thank you for your feedback,

Vin
