Editorio is a Markdown editor for macOS, built with AppKit. There is no web view or JavaScript runtime.
SPEED
Documents open in a native editor with responsive scrolling and quick switching between source and preview. Large files use memory-mapped loading and a read-only mode when needed.
SIDE BY SIDE
Source and preview share one window, split by a divider you can drag. The two halves scroll together and are matched by heading, so the same passage stays in view on each side. Each pane has its own minimap. Command-U switches to a single pane when you want the full width.
EDITING
Syntax highlighting covers Markdown and 18 other languages: Swift, Rust, Python, C, C++, Java, Go, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, SQL, JSON, YAML, TOML, LaTeX, shell and more. Return continues a list and a second Return ends it. Line numbers sit in the gutter, Control-G jumps to a line, and Command-F searches the entire file.
TABS AND WINDOWS
A window can hold multiple tabs. Drag them to reorder, or switch with Command-1 through Command-9. Quitting and reopening restores the tabs you left open.
FILES
Editorio reads and writes plain .md files. It does not insert front matter or reformat lines you did not edit. Work is saved as you type, and undo state is preserved when you reopen a document.
APPEARANCE
Light and dark themes follow the system appearance, or stay fixed to one. Font, size and preview width are adjustable. Full screen is supported.
PRIVACY
Editorio has no account, sync or analytics. It reads files you choose.

High Speed Cripple

I very much wanted to like this software, but it provides no option to disable behavior in which every line break in a source paragraph also becomes a line break in the view. Whoever made this should know that there are various kinds of Markdown, and nobody will want this flavor for every Markdown file. The software’s stated goal is to accomplish high speeds. Well, mission accomplished! Likewise, I installed and uninstalled that program and every artifact of it faster than any other program ever.
Confusing, clunky, and very basic

I wanted to like Editorio, but the app is confusing to navigate and not very intuitive. It took me a while just to figure out how to get a document working properly with markdown. I had to save a blank document as a markdown file before the preview and markdown features would work. For some reason, the default is plain text, which makes the app feel confusing right from the start.Once I finally got it working, the features were underwhelming. Nothing really stood out, and most of it felt very basic. Markdown editing and previewing have been done much better in web-based tools and other apps.Overall, this app feels unfinished and frustrating to use.
Unusable

Started with a text document, saved as Markdown. No cursor visible anywhere, and no way to edit the file. Closed Editor, found the md file in Finder, open with Editor, still no cursor, typing letters had not effect. Application moved to trash within 2 minutes. The other 1 start ratings are well deserved unfortunately.
Did Not Perform As Expected

Based on the marketing and graphics, was expecting an editor similar to Zed, Atom, Sublime and others that would allow rendering like Marked 2What opened appeared to be an Editor, but when I went to enter content, what you’d expect to be line numbers down the left only showed a “1”, and additional lines didn’t do anything. Nor did the sidebar or mini-map show any content when I went to fill the buffer.Confused, I went to the drop down menus and was surprised at the lack of features you’d expect for an editor.Still hopeful, I entered more markdown but then was unable to get it to render said markdown, by menu or short cut key. After removing it from my system and purchases, found there was a little but of additional cruft to remove at ~/Library/Containers/com.editorio.app/Data/Library/Application Support/Editorio; nothing malicious, just a settings, themes, and recovery. Easily removed.Given my experience using other similar tools, I’m pretty sure this isn’t user-error. Unfortunately, in this state, I can’t recommend it.
This update fixes scrolling in large files (over about 100 KB) and several smaller problems.
Large files in Source:
- After you zoom with ⌘+ or ⌘−, scrolling with the mouse wheel reaches the end of the document. Before, if you kept scrolling right after zooming, the wheel could stop at about three quarters of the document as if at the end.
- Dragging the scroll bar lands where you release it, and scrolling up afterwards moves up. Before, the text could jump far down the document on the next scroll.
- ⌘↓ and End show the last line of the document. Before, ⌘↓ could stop at about 90 to 95 percent.
- When the minimap is hidden, large files have a scroll bar again. Before, they had none.
- Right after a large file opens, the minimap shows where you are and responds to clicks and drags, also on the first click in a window that is in the background. Before, it could ignore them.
Other fixes:
- In the Preview of very large files, ⌘↓, ⌘↑, End, Home, Page Up, Page Down and the arrow keys move through the document. Before, they did nothing.
- Export as PDF and Print now ask for access to the document's folder when the document shows images Editorio is not yet allowed to read. You can allow access, continue without the images, or cancel. Before, the images were left out without a message.
- Leaving full screen returns the window to the size it had before. Before, it could come back much smaller.
