Matrix-based, Element X lets you self-host your data or choose from any free public server (the default is matrix.org, but there are plenty of others to choose from). However you host, you have ownership; it’s your data. You’re not the product. You’re in control.
Interoperate natively
Enjoy the freedom of the Matrix open standard! You have native interoperability with any other Matrix-based app. So just like email, it doesn't matter if your friends, partners or customers are on a different Matrix-based app - you can still connect.

What’s New
Version 1.9.3
It’s that time again folks, the next release of Element X is ready for your enjoyment! Version 1.9.3 brings support for showing image & video captions along with some improvements to indicate whether or not you've verified other users.
Additionally we’ve fixed a bug that resulted in some images being sent with the wrong dimensions, made sure that ongoing calls are shown correctly and sorted out an issue where mentioning someone would sometimes show a text document instead of their name.

Ratings and Reviews
Settings require desktop app
I think the app interface is great, but I don’t seem to be getting notification sounds, which is problematic.
EDIT: My notifications weren’t set to “noisy” in the desktop app. I’ve since updated that setting (on the desktop app) and now am getting notification sounds on mobile. Would be nice to control the setting for the mobile app also.
Almost perfect
I’m a big fan of Element and this version is a huge improvement visually and the performance is a big step up. The only thing holding out back from being my main daily driver is the lack of threads and spaces/subspaces. Once these features are added, this will be the only Matrix client I will ever need. Well, gif support would be great too. Im very excited to see how Element x develops

The Chinese input always has some problems, even for the latest version.
