Four ghosts climb the castle stairs. One of them is yours. The sheets keep swapping places, and only your memory knows which one to follow.
On a stormy night, four figures climb the stairs of an abandoned castle. All of them want to reach the tower. None of them wants to be recognised.
Escalofrío is a board game for 2 to 4 people on a single iPhone or iPad. You pass the device around, roll the die and climb. But the die has two ghost faces, and when one comes up you do not move: you throw a sheet over a figure, or you swap two of the figures that are already covered.
That is where the real game starts. Everyone sees the swap. Nobody tells you which one was yours. Only your memory does.
HOW IT WORKS
- 2 to 4 players, taking turns on the same device.
- Roll a number and climb that many steps.
- Roll a ghost and you either cover a figure with a sheet or swap two covered ones.
- You may move any covered figure, yours or not. That is the catch.
- First one to the tower wins. If that figure turns out to belong to nobody, the castle wins and everyone else stays down there.
WHY IT IS HARD
Nothing is hidden and nothing is random behind your back: every swap happens in front of everyone. The only thing that can fail is you. And twenty steps in, between lightning and crossing sheets, it does.
THE HOUSE
The night changes on its own while you play. Sometimes the whole staircase is clear under the moon. Sometimes fog rises and swallows half the climb. Sometimes a storm rolls in and the thunder makes the lanterns flinch. The stairs never change; how much of them you can see does.
