Every notes app wants to own your notes. Evenmark opens your OneDrive folder the notes are already in and lets you write on iPhone and iPad.
You have a system, a folder of markdown files, structured the way you think, sitting in cloud storage where you can see it.
It works right up until you stand up from the desk.
Evenmark is a markdown editor for iPhone and iPad that opens the folder your notes are already in and lets you view and write in the files directly.
That's the whole idea. No import. No new system to move into. Point it at the folder in your cloud storage where your notes live. The vault you've built is the vault you get, on the sofa, on the train, in the queue — wherever you happened to think of the thing.
NOTHING GETS LOCKED IN, BECAUSE NOTHING GOES IN
Every notes app you've tried wanted to own the notes. Its own format, its own storage, its own export button you'd go hunting for in three years when you'd finally had enough of it.
Evenmark writes plain .md files into your own folder. Open them in Obsidian on your desktop, open them in Notepad, open them in whatever you're using in ten years. Delete Evenmark tomorrow and every word is exactly where you left it. There's nothing to get out, because nothing ever went in.
SETUP IS ONE SCREEN
Sign in to your cloud storage, choose the folder your notes live in, and that folder is your vault. Tree on the left, note on the right. On iPhone the note gets the whole screen and the tree is one tap away.
WRITE. IT SAVES ITSELF.
Live markdown styling as you type, so a heading looks like a heading while you're writing it. Evenmark saves a moment after you stop, and again when you close the note. There's no save button because you shouldn't have to think about it.
JOINED-UP NOTES, NOT A PILE OF THEM
Link notes inline. Connect to links already in your files. Change a file name and the links update with it, so tidying your folders never breaks anything. The links panel shows you what a note points at and what points back at it, which is usually where you find the thing you forgot you'd written.
FOR THE NOTES THAT AREN'T DOCUMENTS
Some things aren't a page. Quotes you're collecting, ideas you're keeping, anything that's really a handful of small entries with the same few fields. A gallery base is one file that shows up as a grid of cards. Add a property once and every card has it. Underneath it's still ordinary markdown, still one file, still readable anywhere.
THE TRAIN, THE PLANE, THE DEAD PATCH
Notes you've opened are on the device. Write with no signal and your edits are held safely until you're back online. When you reconnect, files are sent with a check against the version you started from. So returning to a connection never quietly overwrites something.
