FitPlot Lite
print layout helper
Only for Mac
$2.99
FitPlot Lite is a LIMITED version of the application FitPlot.
Description:
FitPlot Lite is a simple to use, yet powerful, Mac app for layout and prepress which makes easier the daily work with printers and plotters.
What FitPlot Lite can do?
FitPlot Lite extends the capabilities of your printer devices.
In FitPlot Lite you can place, resize, rotate, duplicate, and much more, images and documents of all graphic types (tif, jpg, png, gif, psd, pdf, eps).
This is done quickly and accurately, right on the virtual paper on which you are going to print.
You can place images of the types listed above, also you can drop images or use the copy / paste directly into the FitPlot Lite page (for example drag and drop from a browser or copy and paste elements from a graphic application).
Why to use FitPlot Lite?
Because it is an application that is fast, practical and precise at the same time.
You can get immediately results achievable only with more expensive programs, and, unlike these, in a much more straight and intuitive way.
In addition FitPlot Lite provides a set of specialized tools for every need:
• Quick and precise layout: of existing images / PDF or dragged / pasted images (from a browser or another graphic app), exact positioning, duplication, rotation, enlargements and reductions, aligning, batch operations and more…
• Merging of PDF elements: taking advantage of the transparency to white, characteristic of the PDF, you can merge, for example, a sheet of letterhead paper (PDF) with the raw text of a letter and export the resulting image in a new PDF to be sent for e-mail.
• One-click resize of images to standard sizes.
• Resizing scale drawings: you can translate a drawing scale into another easily. You can even determine the drawing scale just knowing one real dimension in the drawing.
• Last minute image retouch: raster images in a FitPlot Lite document can be adjusted directly. You can adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, exposure, tinte and color space.
• Print log: FitPlot Lite keeps a chronology (log) of print jobs it has performed. Each print is a (record) that keeps all is needed to quantify the job: page size, copies, date, inserted files, sheet coverage area.
• Color management: FitPlot Lite gives you the control in the color flow chain that starts with the camera / scanner and concludes with the final print, including your display device in between.
• Many other features are present only in the FitPlot FULL version.
• Lessons / examples showing the program usage are published on a dedicated YouTube channel:

What's new
• Minimum version macOS 10.15
• New "fillet" trim style option: with this trim style, the cut sign is drawn by a rect (no fill and process black hairline strokes) surrounding the image at user given offset distance.
• Autosave (option): with this feature ON user don't need to save documents explicitly or be concerned about losing unsaved changes. This option can be set in FitPlot defaults dialog.
• Quicklook and thumbnails redesigned: now the preview of the documents (in Finder, select a FitPlot document and press the space bar) is more reliable, as well as the FitPlot documents icons.
Fixings:
Expand PDF: corrected problem with the generated pages.
Margins: corrected problem with margins top and bottom exchanged (in case they were different).
Notes:
The log database structure has been modified, accordingly with necessary changes occurred for the newer OS.
It is advisable that older and newer FitPlot versions don't share the same log database.

7.8.0 10/06/2021
Cut & Stack imposition:
This kind of imposition arranges the PDF pages on a base sheet in way that printed sheets will form a sorted stack.
That stack can then be cut in piles that, stacked in order on top of each other, will compose the final book.
Note: in FitPlot Lite, this new function (as well as other important features) is partially limited (it performs the imposition, but you can print / export just the first page).
Please, read the full description of the app before to buy.
7.7.0 04/22/2021
• Bleed control
The bleed is the part on the side of an image that gives the printer a small amount of space to account for movement of the paper.
With this new feature, is easy to set a bleed value to apply to all selected images.
In the end you'll obtain images expanded of the given amount on each side.
Also, optionally, trim marks will be placed at the four corners.
• Small bug fixing and interface improvements.
7.6.0 03/13/2021
• Custom strokes (weight, color, position)
+ Now you can choose between 6 preset strokes weights + a custom stroke.
+ Also you can set the stroke color as you like.
+ You can set the stroke position in front or back respect to the image you are framing.
All this controls are individually applicable (for each image, in the object info panel) or on a selection (using the Tool menu).
• Alignment options
By default objects alignment were performed upon the images edges taking into account the current styles (for example trims, strokes, text tags).
With this version, I have added the option to exclude styles from the alignment, in this way only the "true" edges are aligned.
To include this option, while clicking in the alignment tools in the toolbar, hold down the shift key.
• Alignment dialog
With this new dialog is easy to understand every aspect of the alignment of objects in FitPlot.
You can call this dialog from the Tool -> Align with Dialog… menu or with the [cmd =] shortcut.
It includes the new option (to exclude styles from the alignment calculations).
• Bug fixing / improvements in:
+ Auto insert preset (to include new strokes weight and colors)
+ Drag and Drop with MacOS 15
+ Adding / removing devices (scanners)

7.1.1 12/21/2019
• Printable guide lines: guidelines can now be printed. To set a guide "printable", just double click on it and set the printable checkbox ON.
The guides are printed in process black (100% of all CMYK components) at 0.25 pt line width.
These lines are printed edge to edge and may be very useful to position sheet on cutters, as well as for positioning and fix a photo behind a passepartout.
• Bugs fixing in import from devices (scanners, cameras, iPhone)
• Other minor bugs fixed
Only for the full version:
• Booklet imposition: added an option for signatures with 4, 8, 16 pages per sheet to arrange pages (in the same column) optionally head with head (by head) or foot with foot (by foot).
Some bookbinders prefers to work one way, for others it is indifferent.
7.1.0 11/17/2019
Bug discovered and fixed.
7.0.2 09/10/2019
1. Margins set automatically
Printer margins (visible as a magenta border on the canvas) are automatically set whenever you exit (confirming) the Page Setup dialog.
2. Margins test
You can check a printer's margins starting from a page of size A4 (or Letter) in portrait mode.
From the Tools -> Margins test menu, choose the appropriate size (A4 or Letter).
A test image will be inserted in the page, just print it and check the result.
3. Progress bar when opening a document [*]
A progress bar in the dock's FitPlot icon is showed, when opening documents saved using this version.
The progress bar is useful when opening FitPlot documents containing many images. For documents with few images, the progress bar may be barely noticeable.
4. Document windows as Tabs [*]
Starting with this version, new documents will open as tabs in the current window (instead of cascade windows).
Of course, when needed, tabs can be dragged to detach them and obtain an additional window.
[*] Only for MacOS 10.14+
5. New options for serial duplication tool
The serial duplication dialog includes new options, for multipage PDFs, such sort by rows or lines, and also the reverse order.
6. Contact sheets improved
The algorithm for images layout has been improved. Now it takes into account also styles as text tags, trims etc..
Also the menu for predefined contact sheets has been revised. Now it comprehends presets for Portrait or Landscape oriented page.
7. New option for booklet imposition
The imposition dialog includes the "bleed" field, to be used with multipage PDFs where content prints all the way to the edges (without a white border).
The "bleed", if any, requires a value > 0 (usually from 2 to 5mm max) and this value is assumed to be present on each side of all pages of the multipage PDF used for the imposition.
In the end you'll get outer cut signs that indicate the bleed value and inner sides of the pages will be trimmed of that value.
8. Zoom slider improved
Now it acts in 2 ways, as from the initial view:
a. The view and the whole document page are coincident (there are no scroll bars):
the document center will be the center of the enlarged view
b. The view shows a portion of the document page (scroll bars are present):
the center of the starting view will also be maintained in the enlarged view
9. Bugs fixed and minor improvements
i. Memory management improved, the app should be less RAM consuming
ii. Solved some problems with the packing algorithms
iii. Other minor bugs discovered and fixed
7.0.1 08/28/2019
• Asymmetrical resize
Images can be resized on x or y axis, independently.
A new small button in the info / edit panel allows to switch between the symmetrical / asymmetrical resizing mode.
When asymmetrical mode is activated, the scale% Y field is also activated and manual resizing is possible on both X and Y.
Asymmetrical resizing is not allowed for grouped images.
• Imposition booklets with shrinking
As you should know the inner pages of a saddle stitched booklet "creep" out and extend beyond the edge of the outer pages when folded.
In FitPlot you were able to adjust the page layout of inner spreads to maintain a constant outer margin when the saddle stitched booklet is trimmed.
The old way [shift] was to separate outer pages of a calculated amount to compensate the creep.
With the new [shrink] option no gap will be added on outer pages. Inner pages are slightly shrinked (resized on the X axis) just for the amount needed to compensate the creep.
• Snaps and guides improved
Snap on guides (while manual editing objects) has been improved and should be more quick and reliable.
Also added volume control for guides and snaps sounds, directly in the View menu.
• Bugs fixed and other improvements
6.8.0 05/17/2019
1. Copy/paste from RTF and text
It is possible to copy sections of a formatted or non-formatted text from another app into FitPlot.
The formatted text keeps the characteristics of the original, while the "text only" is formatted in Lucida 12pts black on white/transparent background.
The paragraphs are arranged on an adequately large layer, which could differ from the original layout.
If needed, it is possible to maintain the different paragraphs as long as they are effectively existent in the original document.
This operation produces a PDF (in the temporary files folder, at the closing of the app it will be requested a potential saving of it).
2. Improvement of the color management / Black Point compensation
The color management has been improved in the quality and correspondence of the conversions; the CMYK conversions are now treated at 16bits
Moreover it's now possible the Black Point compensation.
This will convert the black of the image in the maximum black that is possible to reproduce in the destination profile.
3. Insertion of SVG
It is possible to import SVG images through the new "Insert SVG…" menu.
The inserted images are converted in a PDF file (in the temporary files folder, at the closing of the app it will be requested a potential saving of it).
4. Improvement of the Drag-Copy (Only for MacOs 13+)
The operation of duplication through drag-copy (alt-click drag image) it's not limited anymore to one object only (for MacOs 10.13+).
5. Mojave ready
The program is optimized for Mojave (MacOs 10.14).
6. Bug fixing
Small improvements in the interface.
Any discovered bug has been fixed.
Let me know if you discover any error and malfunctioning, but also feel free to suggest improvements throughout the official site
6.6.0 01/25/2019
Items List Panel
• It's possible to reorder the images on the document stack by file name alphabetic order (click on the header of the "file name" column). This is useful while printing contact sheets with image file name tag.
• Undo reorder (to get back to the previous state after a reordering, see point above).
• Select elements on the drawing moving the selection on the table with the arrow keys up and down.
Snap to page center
• Moving an image (with click and drag), you should snap image to the appearing horizontal or vertical guides passing from the page center.
Contact sheet
• Added the option "file name tag" in the contact sheet dialog. The same setting (in the dialog), will be used in all the contact sheet quick menus.
• Improved the undo while doing contact sheets.
Printer's margins
• After a print, whenever current document margins differ from just used printer margins, a dialog will propose you to update the document's margin to the new ones.
Bug fixing
Bugs discovered have been fixed. These are the points concerned:
• Copy and paste of attributes, now works as established in the default settings.
• Auto packing when sending prints to FitPlot, now works as established in the default settings.
• Multipage packing with floor / ceiling algorithm. Fixed possible crash when trying to pack an image in a small area and the resize image is set to OFF.
• Progress indicators for long operations has returned!
FitPlot Manual PDF
• A FitPlot manual (in printable PDF) is available for download on the official site.
The manual includes a clickable index with all the characteristics and specific chapters on any FitPlot feature, where each command is deeply explained with illustrations and screenshots.
At the end you'll find a rich appendix with references to the program main window, the info / edit panel and all the commands available in the program toolbar.
6.4.0 07/18/2018
1. Contact Sheet…:
This new command performs a kind of "Nesting" suitable to arrange images in rows and columns, commonly known as contact sheet.
You can find this command inside [Tools -> Contact Sheet…] menu with [cmd + J] as keyboard shortcut.
When launched, the program shows up a dialog where we can set all needed variables; if you are lazy, I've just prepared some quick menus (with presets suitable for the vertical formats A4 / letter or similar).
These "quick menus" are in the [Tools -> Predefined Contact Sheet]:
• Portrait 3x3 [ctrl + 4]
• Portrait 4x4 [ctrl + 5]
• Portrait 5x5 [ctrl + 6]
• Landscape 2x4 [ctrl + 7]
• Landscape 3x6 [ctrl + 8]
• Use Saved Preferences… [ctrl + J]
2. Menu [Object Print Style -> None]:
The first item of the [Object Print Style] menu is now the "None" style. Choosing this item will cause the removal of all styles applied to one image (or more images, in case you are using the contextual menu) in a single operation.
3. Improvements in the "Import settings from…" command:
This command allows to import settings such as page format, for example, from other documents or templates. With this improvement you can now import also images and magnetic guides that are present in the file to import. The images, if present, are, upon request, placed above or below images that are already on the current document.
4. Added the new file type "fitplot bundle template":
This kind of file will be, from now on, proposed as the FitPlot model document default (the documents to save in the templates folder).
This file type has the advantage to save all images in a self contained "package" with guaranteed portability. It is stil possible to save in the old "fitplot template" file, for retro-compatibility, but it is no more the default type.
5. Improvements and bugs fixing:
Some minor problems have been fixed.
6.3.0 01/03/2018
Just an update to fix a possible crash problem when sending PDFs to FitPlot from other applications [see http://fitplot.it/Resources/en.lproj/pgs/workflowPDF.htm].
Here's the news from the recent 6.2.0 version:
1. New command Trim Signs Control…: you can use this command to set up cut signs suitable for optical reading to be used with cutters Fotoba® Digitrim.
2. Units of measure: the unit mm (millimeters) has been added in the FitPlot main window.
3. Hook object along bounds: with the "snap on bounds" activated, you can move and hook images with Fotoba® markers (see point 1. above) between them, in way to overlap the shared trim marks.
4. Bug fixing. In this version several problems has been fixed, thanks to users feedback. We strongly invite you to collaborate by communicating problems, as well as ideas that may be included in future versions of FitPlot.
