Description

Two focus solutions for Blackmagic cameras. LiDAR Autofocus and Manual Mode for precise handheld control. Solves the problem of a stills lens with limited focus throw.

Any Blackmagic camera that allows a Bluetooth connection and a lens that allows the camera to control the focus will work with this app and one of its two focus control solutions.

All of the features can be tried for free for an unlimited time.

MANUAL MODE
Manual Mode will work with any iOS device and solves a common problem when using stills lenses to shoot moving pictures: a limited focus throw. Using this app, the focus throw can be extended, allowing precise control to match that of a lens designed for a movie camera. Markers and optional haptic feedback allow the focus puller to feel when the focus reaches a set point without having to look at the image, making the experience closer to a traditional focus puller.

LiDAR FOCUS CONTROL
LiDAR Focus Control is available for iOS devices that have a LiDAR scanner. After calibration, point the device at any subject and the app will instantaneously measure the distance using LiDAR and calculate the focus value for the camera.

Both of these solutions mean the focus puller can stand and operate separate to the camera operator.

It works but it does NOT remember any of the marks when you restart.

Very disappointed. How hard could it be to remember what your settings were?

Needs work

I love the AB focus pulls. However, I don’t know if it’s my Sigma 18-35 or the app but most of the time the focus pull is far from accurate. Set a good A or B point, then hit the play to focus and it is way out of focus. But then sometimes it works.

Also, the lidar reports wildly different distances (iphone 13 pro max.). Ill focus on something 6 meters away, focus on something closer then go back to the 6 meters and it’ll say it’s 1.5 meters or 8 meters or 4 meters. This is pointing at a focus sheet.

The AB pull might be worth it if you have time to set it up several times in order for it to start working correctly. The one remaining issue is that the pull is instant. There is no option for a slow, cinematic pull.

The tech in this app has some promise but right now it’s not worth the purchase price or, really, free.

Incredible app

You can spend several hundreds of dollars and get a dedicated LiDAR device, or $12 and get this. It’s as simple as that. This app is certainly a little rough around the edges, but now means I can enjoy perfectly tracked dolly or Steadicam shots where before I needed to have a dedicated focus puller on the shoot.
