Folder Gallery is a fast, folder-based image browser for Mac.
Open an image folder and browse it in three panes: a collapsible folder tree, a thumbnail gallery, and a live preview. Click a folder to see its images and videos. Select a file to preview it, or open it full window.
There is no import process, proprietary library, or photo catalog. Folder Gallery works directly with the folders and files already stored on your Mac.
FAST FOLDER BROWSING
• Navigate folders and subfolders in a collapsible tree
• Click a folder to display its images and videos as a gallery
• Thumbnails appear as the folder is read — no wait for a complete scan
• Preview the current selection in the right pane as you move
• Open a full-window preview with Space, Return, or a double-click
• Move through the tree and gallery from the keyboard
• Sort by name, modification date, file size, or type
• Adjust the gallery thumbnail size
• Reopen the last folder automatically after a restart
• Drop a folder on the sidebar, or choose one with File → Open
BACKGROUND THUMBNAIL CACHE
Folder Gallery generates thumbnails while you browse. Only the folder you select is indexed. When you remain in a folder, remaining thumbnails are prepared in the background so the next visit is faster. Subfolders are not preloaded until you select or expand them.
The cache contains only generated thumbnails and folder indexes. Reveal or clear it from the Tools menu.
PRACTICAL FILE MANAGEMENT
• Create folders, or a new folder from the current selection
• Rename files and folders
• Move items between folders using drag and drop
• Hold Option while dragging to copy instead of move
• Drops from Finder are copied so the originals stay put
• Move unwanted items to the macOS Trash
• Reveal files and folders in Finder
Folder Gallery supports popular still formats available through macOS, including JPEG, PNG, HEIC, HEIF, WebP, GIF, TIFF, BMP, AVIF, and common RAW formats. Videos: MP4, M4V, and QuickTime MOV.
Your files remain in their original folders. Folder Gallery does not upload files, require an account, or connect to an online service.
