Description

Folder Hub is an app hidden under the MacBook's notch, used for quick access and retrieval of files and folders within the working directory.

What problems does Folder Hub solve?

- In daily work, we often deal with numerous files and folders, typically organizing them into different directories for various projects. However, accessing specific project files often involves navigating through layers of nested folders.
- Accidentally closing a folder window means having to go through the entire folder structure again to locate the desired file.
- Even when the window is open, accessing the required files can be difficult due to other active windows, such as a web browser, obscuring the view.

How does Folder Hub address these issues (interaction design)?

The Folder Hub window is by default concealed under the MacBook's notch. When the mouse moves to the notch area, the Folder Hub window becomes visible, and upon moving the mouse out of the window, Folder Hub hides again.

When displayed, Folder Hub showcases different workspaces such as Desktop, Downloads, Project A, Project B, all of which are user-customizable and contain the respective project's files and folders. Switching between different workspaces is achieved by hovering the mouse over the respective area.

Taking image uploads as an example:
Suppose we need to upload images from "Project A" to a browser window. By moving the mouse to the notch area and then hovering over the "Project A" workspace, we can directly drag and drop the images from this workspace to the browser.

Through this simple example, the following can be observed:
- No need to navigate through nested folders
- Folder Hub floats above all other windows, ensuring it is not obscured by the current active window
- When needing to access it again, Folder Hub remains in the last selected workspace, avoiding the inconvenience of having to find the previously closed Finder window.

Nice but how do I remove it from my menu bar?

Im trying to clean my menu bar and theres no option in settings or in the apps settings to remove from menubar. If i quit the app it'll remove the menubar icon but I want it to still be open and not have the Folder Hub menu bar icon in the menu bar, please help.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your feedback.

The option to hide the menu bar icon will be included in the next version update.

Good Idea, but poor execution.

TLDR: The interface is buggy and not intuitive, and the app is overpriced as both a subscription and purchase.

Adding workspaces and folders to workspaces is cumbersome. You have to open up the settings and add it there rather than being able to just drag a folder into the workspace or add a workspace directly.

When adding workspaces, you can add them as folders or sub folders and the way you selected is confusing.

This app employs a variety of manipulative tactics (e.g. a 24-hour intro period pricing of $5 off) to sell the software before you take the time to figure out its shortcomings. You can either tie your wallet endlessly to this app with a subscription, or pay a one-time $15 for an app that shouldn’t be more than $5.

The author could fix this app, but that would require more than just addressing the bugs I’ve listed, it would require a different way of thinking about the end user.

Developer Response ,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I appreciate your feedback and I'm committed to improving the app. I'll work on addressing the bug you mentioned in future updates. Regarding the app's pricing and value, please understand that I am working full-time on this project. Your input is valuable, and I'll consider your suggestions to enhance user experience. Thank you for your understanding.

Good idea

Update: Not sure why this app started displaying App Store reviews in the Settings window. It's a completely useless waste of my network resources that honestly makes me just want to uninstall it. I decreased my rating from 5 to 3 stars.

This app is a good idea and looks like it's advancing well. It would be nice to see support for 1) dragging files/folders to a workspace, 2) option to display files/folders using other views similar to finder (details), 3) option to opt out of sharing usage and diagnostic data, 4) ability to run actions on files/folders.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your valuable feedback. I have duly noted these suggestions, and will progressively incorporate these features in future versions of the app.
