==WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING==

I would recommend the Freckle app because it is one which is user friendly, and it taps into the different modalities of learning, and it also aids a teacher in differentiation. It is so structured, to point them to assistance, independent of the teacher. And that is what we want to promote: student to student interaction using peer body talk, turn and talk, sharing, and all those things.
~ Dwight Barnes, 4th grade math teacher

The dashboard is amazing. Insights are exactly the quick pieces of information a teacher would want at first glance. The grouping tab is really clean looking and is exactly what teachers and administrators want to see on a daily basis. Teachers could literally print that out and use it in their lesson plans when talking about flexible grouping. It does a great job of presenting the information in a simple way.
~ Josh Shaw, Tech Director

The teacher dashboard is in a very clear format. I like that I can see in one place how each student in the class is progressing. The green/yellow/red color code is a great visual as well as the specific number within the box. It's helpful that I can hover over each concept and see the explanation of that standard.
Overall great product!
~ Jennifer Auten, 2nd grade teacher

Freckle - I love the videos! Instead of showing them just a paragraph write up, it's just like a teacher sitting there with them and going over it.
I think Freckle is a great app for classes and for schools that have a time-sensitive schedule and it gives them instant feedback and data that can be used in class the next day.
~ Jabari Bush, 5th grade math teacher

One of my students got a double digit + double digit problem and he had never done that before. He asked me and I quickly showed him. Next thing I knew he was asking me how to regroup and was doing 2 digit + 2 digit with regrouping, which was extremely impressive to me at this point.
I did take a look at the dashboard. It is fantastic. I showed one of my administrators who is also our Math IST and she is beyond impressed. I've been telling a lot of people about it and will continue to do so!
Thanks again for making what is now the most vital part of my math class.
~ Jane Alukonis, 1st grade math teacher

Freckle is a good solution for our students and our teachers, especially working in an RTI model, teaching CCSS and addressing learning needs within a differentiated instructional model.
~ Emily Klug, 5th grade math

Very fun but wonky

One thing to note: the app is super fun for learning new math topics and the placement tests are SUPER ACCURATE.
Most placement tests I do in elementary school are kinda trash, while I’m at home doing high leveled competition math, the test claims that I am at a 50*6 level. Tbh, after I got my base ten results, I was SHOCKED to see decimal division problems.

The bugs are small and subtle, but they are still pretty annoying. In the math facts practice, the freckle keyboard pops up, but so does the iPad keyboard. The iPad keyboard blocks the way of the freckle one and it’s just overall trouble. Also, this isn’t really a bug, more of a suggestion: When a student does a placement test for a topic in math, they might score a really high level, thus, they complete a topic after 3 lessons. So I’m just suggesting you guys to add more levels to each topic, but other than that, the app is a super fun game where you can customize your character and practice math.

If I’m being honest, it’s not that bad…

Scrolling through the ratings, I’ve seen plenty of reviews trashing freckles reputation saying all kinds of things from “using real hair colors” to it not letting it log you in. If I’m being completely honest, my freckle experience hasn’t been nearly as bad so far. I feel as if I’ve learned a good bit. The stories are a little too easy, the math is challenging enough I guess and I haven’t discovered any major inconveniences so far that would ruin how I view this app. Sure, it doesn’t go above and beyond but it’s a decent game that could help some kids learn a lot. I don’t think it deserves a 3.3 as an average rating. Maybe a 4.3? The main idea is: it’s not bad, but it’s not amazing.

Could be better

It’s good for its wide range of educational content, however most of that content is only available for premium members. And you cant buy premium unless you are a teacher at an actual school. It’s currently not available for homeschoolers or parents in general. And premium would cost $2000 a year anyway. Another thing I dont like about this app is that the voice that reads the stories is a robot, not a human. So the reading sounds clunky and inauthentic, especially the “s/he said” parts. If they are going to charge you $2000, you’d think they could afford to hire a human to read the stories aloud. I recommend Starfall instead.
