What's New in FreshDate This update brings a major overhaul to how you manage frozen food, plus a complete fix to the swipe gesture so it works reliably on every item in your list. Freeze & Defrost Flow You can now swipe left on any food item to freeze it instantly. FreshDate automatically calculates how long that item can stay frozen based on what it is — chicken gets 3 months, butter gets 9 months, bacon gets 1 month, and so on. The expiry date updates the moment you freeze it, so you always know exactly when it needs to come out. When you're ready to use something, swipe left on a frozen item and tap Defrost. FreshDate moves it back to your fridge and sets a safe eating window based on food safety guidelines — raw poultry and fish get 24 hours, red meat and cooked meals get 48 hours, and butter gets a full week. You'll get a reminder 6 hours before the safe window closes so nothing gets wasted. Swipe Gesture Fixed The swipe-to-action gesture has been completely rebuilt. It now works reliably every time — swipe left to reveal the Freeze and Delete buttons, which stay open until you tap one or tap elsewhere. The buttons clip cleanly to the card's rounded corners and slide in smoothly as you swipe. Cleaner Categories Cupboard and Fruit Bowl have been removed. The app now uses Fridge and Freezer only — simpler, cleaner, and more useful. You can also choose Fridge or Freezer when scanning a new item, right on the confirmation screen before you save. You can now freeze food directly from the app. Swipe left on any item and tap Freeze — FreshDate automatically calculates how long it will last in the freezer based on the food type. Frozen items show a snowflake badge with their new use-by date and appear on the correct date in your calendar. The app knows what can't be frozen (eggs, cream, yoghurt, lettuce) so you'll never get a silly suggestion. Expiry notifications now include a freeze reminder when food is running out of time.
