The app is total JUNK!!!!

I’ve had the garage door opener for 3 months now and I’ve only been able to use it twice where it has worked like it should. For those two times I was able to open the door with the app and close the door with the app. And only one time was I away from home when I did it. So here is what I’ve been having issues with. Right now it shows the door closed. I pressed the open button and it actually opened. But when I went to tell it to close it didn’t. I had to go hit the button. Before opening the door I was able to turn on and off the air compressor using the app. But after opening the door the app would not turn the air compressor on or off anymore. And now it won’t even open the door using the app. I have good WiFi in the garage. I have a wired access point in there. So good signal. Can’t blame it on that. The relay hub is within 15’ of the door. Can’t blame distance. On top of the app issues... I also tried the camera add-on and even tried two different ones and couldn’t get those to work either. I ended up putting a $20 Wyze Cam on there in place of the $85 ryobi camera. Overall there isn’t anything overly spectacular about the opener. I wanted it for the app and battery backup. There are others out there. I would suggest looking at those.

Great when it works

Set up is a little confusing but once it was set up it seemed to work great for a year, then I got an Apple Watch and now everytime
I try to use the open close feature on the watch it logs my account out on the phone which I then have to get out and log back in which defeats the purpose of the watch app all together, so fine I just won’t use the watch app but now I can’t even keep the door connected to WiFi, nothing has changed but now it just randomly disconnects from internet and I have to go though the entire setup again I’ve all but given up on upswing the notifications and WiFi with this door, instead I got an extra ring contact sensor to tell me if the door is closed and a Wyze cam in the garage to double check. This part is more a review on the opener itself rather than the app but anyone who has kids knows Ryobi needs to change the “lock” button on the indoor keypad. This should not be a one press and lock out all your openers. It should be an app only or very least a passcode required to lock and unlock. Way too many times I come home from work or go to leave in the morning and can no longer open my door with the car opener or the app so what is the point 🤷🏻‍♂️

Horrible app

The first problem is that I have to log in constantly. Keep me signed in rather than making me constantly enter my user id and password. There isn’t even an option to save the password or use touch id. when I finally get logged in it takes forever to load the GDO, and sometimes just gets stuck and clocks. This happens every time I get kicked out and have to log back in which is incredibly annoying. Also, it never completes the WiFi setup. It looks like it does because the green blinking WiFi light turns solid but I keep getting kicked out of the process and have to start over. This app is useless since it won’t complete the WiFi setup so I can’t use this for anything. When I try to troubleshoot or look at the FAQs all this app shows me is the same stupid video. When I click on a menu option take me directly to that option, don’t make me try to find what it want. I’m already annoyed and need help which is why I’m going into those sections but all I get is some stupid video about how great Ryobi thinks this garage opener is! What a waste! If you put technology out there to use then at least make it work!

IPhone app good, Watch app not so much

If all you want is to use your iPhone to open your garage door this works fairly well. I am happy that they offer an AppleWatch app, but it rarely works. I also continue to experience the log outs. Not sure if that is because of the AppleWatch app or not, but it is in no way fixed. When it does work from the watch it is great. The iPhone (when it logs in) is reliable on reporting the correct status and opening and closing the door. I have found I can not trust the AppleWatch to be correct. If they can just get the log in problem solved and the AppleWatch app to work a bit better I would be a 4 or 5. The only other miss, which is not really this app’s problem, is the lack of HomeKit integration. Being able to use Siri to turn my lights off and on is amazing. Being able to use Siri to open the garage door would be off the charts. Also, if they offered HomeKit, I think that would also fix the multiple user problem.

If you are reading this because you are in the market for a garage door opener, the basic iPhone app does work. The garage door itself is wonderful and I love the ability to add add on accessories to it.

Changed my life after 1.22.2

When I first purchased the garage door, I was excited, had all the bells and whistles, looked great. Installed the app, had issues getting it to connect. Only works on 2.4Ghz and I had 2.4 turned off. Then it worked fantastic for about a month. It helps with my mild OCD and not having to turn around again and again. Then it stopped, had to re-do, worked for awhile, then re-do, repeat. I had about given up. Still happy with the opener, but annoyed by the frequent dropping from WiFi, poor alert capabilities, and drop of iPad version.

This all changed after 1.22.2. I gave it another go. It’s been fantastic and reliable. Even lost power to the house a few times for 4+ hours and reconnected to WiFi without intervention. Alerts are now consistent on my phone for open, close, after hours, and the iPhone version works on the iPad.

Between the app, all the accessories on the garage door opener that I can control remotely, and the opener itself, it’s absolutely wonderful.

Not so smart garage door opener....

I was excited at first to purchase a WiFi capable opener that had so many options and accessories. I’ve had the opener for almost a year now and have had countless issues with the app and it’s functionality. The app constantly freezes and before I can blink my eyes, it errors out and I have to log in again. It’s frustrating at the least especially when I’m trying to leave in a hurry. Today’s most recent experience is that of utter frustration. I backed out, clicked the opener button and nothing. I TRIED to log into the app to close the garage door but alas....error....logged out. Now I can’t log back into the app. I had to physically leave my vehicle, press the button on wall to close the door and guess what....nothing.... ^#&$@!!!! After stomping, yelling, standing on one foot and grasping my left ear lobe I finally managed to get the door to close. However, I’m still unable to log into the app. Basically I have a fancy opener that utilizes only half of is advertised extra functionality. Awesome.....

Don’t bother with this app or opener

Not sure why I changed from chamberlain openers. The app is unstable, the opener is unreliable.

Ok, I wanted the fan and extension cord real. That put this garage door opener system at a really expensive price but it would have been perfect since I wanted to dry my boat and put it on charger. In theory, I was a genius getting this system. The cord real is the only thing that is decent on this whole setup. The fan rattles a lot and sounds like it can die at any point in time. The opener is the worst I have ever owned.

Currently the app shows the status but I can’t open or close door with app. The remote still works and app shows open and close status. I can’t control fan or light.

I have to unplug the garage door often to reset it and get things working. You can’t use a universal remote, you must buy the ryobi brand. This means your built in car remotes don’t work. I have purchased the opener $189, 9 foot door kit $50, extra remote $40, fan $60, extension cord $60. I’m throwing it all in trash, I wouldn’t even sell it.

Ryobi should be ashamed of this product and app.

I have 2 other brands on my other 2 garage doors and they are rock solid and no issues after 5-6 years. I have never once unplugged to reset and still going strong.

FYI, 5 stars for quietness. I’ll give it that much. 0 stars for app, hardware.

Works as advertised

I have had almost every garage door opener manufactured to date. I recently had a martin garage door go out on my three bay garage. I decided to try the this Ryobi because extras that can be added along with a easy battery backup. It installed in less than two hours with the addition of a extension for my 10’ door. I have a iPhone 8 and the app has worked great. I live in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and I have opened and closed the door from the backside of my property approximately 1 mile away. There is a delay though I have not had it delay more than 20 seconds. It is easy to know if the garage door is opened or closed because it states it on the home screen of he app. Great product and will be changing the other two out as required to the Ryobi

Great when it works.

This app is great when it works. I bought this garage door opener solely for the app so when I come home on my motorcycle, I can open it by the app and drive right in or if someone needs to get in my house when I’m not home. It seems like every time IOS is updated, the app stops working. The past few days, I tried to open it using the app. It wouldn’t respond so I would open it with the keypad and close the door. I also closed out the app on my phone and about 5 minutes later, the door opened. That has happened to me 3 times now. I caught it the first 2 times. The last time (yesterday), I didn’t catch it and had a nice police officer knocking on my door at 1:30 in the morning to let me know with everything going on right now. I’m hoping this review will be read by someone that matters and the app will be updated soon.

Constantly Breaking

When I first got the garage door the app worked great. I can open the door and close the door. It would also read its status as it should. Then an update came out and broke that. It would still read the status of the door but trying to open and close it from the app would result in disappointment. You would then have to walk to the garage and open it yourself. Another update came out. It resolve the issue and the door would open and close as it should. I started praising the garage door again. Now, once again, Ryobi released another update and the app is broken. It can readThe garage doors status and the status of the battery that is inserted into the garage door. It could not do the basic task which is designed to do, opening and closing a garage door... hopefully they push out another update and resolve the issue again. Then hopefully I won’t make the mistake and update the app ever again.
