Gave this a try despite the 1 star reviews. Once you give the app permissions, it worked flawlessly with my GoPro 10.If you are not using OBS, Quicktime, etc, you may not notice the app after installing since it just kind of hides in the menu bar (which IMO has serious overflow problems on Sonoma) But once this is installed, you can quickly do live previews, change the digi lenses, nice and easy. Not saying there might still be compatibility issues for some machines, but I got it working flawlessly on my M3 (Pro) 14" MBP (as of May 2024). Thank you, GoPro developers & team! Keep up the good work.

This application is the only way to connect a GoPro to use as a webcam on a computer, and the way it does so resets the Device ID *every time* a GoPro is connected to the computer. This means in OBS you have to re-register the camera EVERY TIME you use it in OBS, because the Device ID the GoPro Webcam app gives to the camera is not persistent. Really GoPro should join us in 2012 (it’s 2026, 14 years after the latest UVC version was released) and make their cameras UVC-ready, but the least they could do is make their UVC virtualization utility assign persistent Device IDs to make basic functionality easier. I see this software has only been update twice in its lifespan; GoPro seems asleep at the wheel, sadly. Please fix this basic problem!

I have DJI, I have Insta360, I even have OBSBot. But the requirement of installing this app is not enough. Then you need to hop through more loops to get the webcam working. And believe me, you’d only use this as your webcam if you really need to move the Macbooks webcam location somewhere else, or you use it lid-closed. Such a shame. I miss the days where GoPro was leading this action camera scene, now they have the same boring camera since Hero 5. I mean, they didn’t even get Hero 5 session successor, they just did a GoPro Hero 4k in 2025 that doesn’t even have Webcam feature. This app, also comes with weird design choices. Toggles that stays the same color even if you turned it on? Why on earth? Just follow Apple Guidelines gopro!

My GoPro Hero8 is my least used camera. I use my Sony HV40 camcorder far more than I use this camera. Well, the webcam functionality this app provides has breathed new life in my investment. This can now serve as a quality and viable b-camera to my iPhone 16 Pro.
