Healium stories are metaphors that your thoughts and feelings have *power* not only in the virtual world but in the real world as well. With your apple watch or Brainlink Lite EEG headband (optional), lower your heart rate, focus your attention, and quiet your mind to grow flowers, hatch fireflies, and illuminate the solar system in augmented reality. No wearable? No problem. Just select "I'm not using a wearable" and the experiences will automatically play without one.

How do you get the experiences to react to the data that's coming from your wearable? Healium has two EEG protocols: Calm and Focus, and one calm protocol for heart rate with apple watch. More protocols will be added in the future. For calm, recall a calm memory, a time when you felt a sense of inner stillness. For focus, focus your attention on an object, thought, or sensation to try to change your environment. Trying to lower your heart rate with apple watch? Breathe..... and recall a memory that quiets your mind.

Neurofeedback, or EEG biofeedback, is the practice of measuring brainwave activity and then feeding that information back to the user using auditory or visual information. Typically, this process is used to teach the brain to shift to a more flexible, adaptive, or resilient pattern. Because we know what should be happening in the brain during specific states of meditation AND because we can monitor this and get feedback about our internal states, we can strategically combine these practices to make them both more powerful. We refer to this process as EEG NeuroMeditation, which is what Healium is doing with an EEG sensing headband.

NeuroMeditation is the application of brain-based principles to meditation practices. It is based on the understanding that all meditations are not the same. Based on dozens of brain imaging studies, we can categorize meditations based on the way attention is directed, our intention during the practice, and the way it impacts the brain. Healium is currently powered by two EEG protocols of Quiet Mind and Focus.

This self-awareness experience is not a treatment or diagnostic tool for any kind of mental health or physical disorder. For more information on the handful of studies in peer-reviewed journals on Healium, please visit: https://www.tryhealium.com/science-behind-healium/

This app integrates with the health app.

Note: Muse 1 headband is no longer being manufactured and its SDK is no longer supported. Our apologies that we had to switch headband vendors. The Brainlink Lite EEG headband is now compatible with Healium and customers will see that wearable along with apple watch unlocked for them.

Life Changing & Fun! Really doesn’t get better than this!

Mental fitness & emotional regulation training is a great use for augmented reality, and it’s apps like this one that are really starting to pave the way for an AR-centric future. The Healium app gives you the ability to finally master the art of stress control and management all in real-time. There’s an extremely handy tutorial when you first start the app, and the additional wearable component really brings your feelings and mental state to life in a way I’ve never experienced before! Incredible! Really recommend this to anyone looking to improve their mental resilience in a fun yet educational way!

Janky, kind of Gimmicky

I’m a veteran and saw this app in the Stories section today. Decided to try it out, and am coming away very underwhelmed.

The Butterfly meditation is easily the worse of the two currently available. The leaves on the bush (tree? green twig?) pop in and out jarringly during the experience, and some only seem to exist when viewed from certain angles. Then, after hatching one butterfly (and several others that don’t hatch but just appear from nothing) the narrator’s voice starting pausing the spa music every few seconds like a train conductor, repeating the same phrase over and over again. That, and the fact that it’s never quite clear what you’re doing, are very frustrating.

The other meditation, about the Solar System, is similarly vague about how it works. Are you “lighting up the universe” or is that light level the exact same at the end as it was at the beginning? Are you making butterflies grow or are they spontaneously appearing on a timer? My understanding from the Apple Story about this was that your biofeedback would produce an immediately visible reaction in the AR world. It’s what sold me on the app. Unfortunately, that great pitch is not well realized here.

Hopefully the devs get an influx of cash and use it to flesh this app out. Right now it feels cheap, like it’s held together with spit and bubblegum.

Edit: There was a "family sharing bug" where some users couldn't access our full app. Were you able to try our update? Thanks for the feedback and for your service. You can adjust difficulty settings so the experience doesn't stop and start so much by clicking the settings wheel. Your heart rate or brain patterns are like a gas pedal, stopping and starting the experience. It may feel awkward at first. This might help: https://www.tryhealium.com/faq Here's a video: https://youtu.be/c4zfgPEfNfI . We're working on alternatives to stop/start and would love to get your suggestions. Please email us at hello@tryhealium.com. If you lower your heart rate and the waveform goes above the threshold line, the planets light up. But If your heart rate goes up and your'e not meeting your threshold, the planets darken. It's similar with the Brainlink Lite headband. If your feelings of "quiet mind" for instance are meeting the mark and are above the threshold and calm, butterflies hatch out of the chrysalis. Thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback. If you email us at hello@tryhealium.com we'd also like to learn which iphone and which wearable you're using so we can troubleshoot. We appreciate the time you took to explain to us how we can make the experience better. Thank you for your service. You might also check out the free versions of our apps with a program called Honor Everywhere which provides virtual tours to aging Veterans unable to physically travel to see their memorials. Search "Honor Everywhere" in the app store.

Healium cares about my self care.

My gift to myself in 2020 is more self care/love.

Trying to find a work/life balance is really hard in New York City! Even harder though is finding time to quiet my thoughts in a bustling city and give my racing mind a rest but it's a lot easier with this app.

I aim to meditate on my own everyday, I like the idea that my thoughts are powerful but sometimes I get too distracted and can't do it on my own. Healium sets you up for meditative success and is like nothing I've ever used. We all deserve more self care and self love, I'm grateful apps like this exist to help me along the way!!!
