Description

Are you struggling to find a chess app for iPhone and iPad that allows you to play a chess game and comment on your moves? Look no further, iAnnotate Chess can do the job!

In iAnnotate Chess, users can play out their game on the chess board, while the moves appear in a text editor. Once making their move, the user can type their comment in a comment box, and add it to their chess annotation file.

iAnnotate Chess incorporates a very useful tool: AutoSave. After each move and every change to the game text, iAnnotate Chess automatically saves the user's game. If the user was to accidentally quit iAnnotate Chess, their game and comments would still be there.

Also, iAnnotate Chess makes sure that each and every move is legal, and tells where checks and checkmates* are made. If the user happens to make a wrong move, they can always undo or redo their move.

One more very powerful feature included with iAnnotate Chess is AutoPlay. AutoPlay allows the user to see a brief replay of their game. This replay is short, lasting only a few minutes, but allows the user to get a glimpse of their game.

Once the user has finished their game, they can also save the moves and comments in a text file locally on their iPad or iPhone. They can share the text file through Mail, Messages, and AirDrop to their friends, coaches, and teachers. Users can also print their games.

I hope you enjoy iAnnotate Chess. Please give comments and suggestions, as this will make iAnnotate Chess a better tool for chess players all around the world.

*Please Note: The Check and Checkmate Features are currently under development, and they will be released in an update soon.

Needs a few more features to be perfect

Should allow multiple variations in parenthesis so I can annotate about what could happen and look at the variations. If they are too complicated for me to see blindfold since I’m not quite master strength yet it would be convenient to look at more variations and “what if” scenarios.
That’s my biggest pet peeve is variations. I’m going through chess master school and want to copy some of their games here but I can’t learn well without being able to look through variations at certain points of the game. Please add this and I’ll give it 5 stars.

Nice design but too buggy to use

Overall I like the app, but if I take back and replay moves it sometimes corrupts the list of annotated moves shown on the screen. Sometimes they are wrong, sometimes completely missing. This needs to be fixed, as it’s the core function of the app.

Edit - it just got the turns switched, thinks it’s black’s turn when it should be white. This ruins the game I’m trying to play with my dad. And there is no way to fix it. :(
