No Guess: every board clears by logic alone. New in 2.2: Subtract Flags for dense boards, plus Vietnamese and German. One purchase: no ads, no in-app purchases.
Minesweeper for the Mac, without the forced guess. With No Guess on, every board can be cleared by logic alone, so a lost game is a mistake you can learn from, not a coin flip that went the wrong way.
Made by a Minesweeper player for players who race the clock. Open every safe square as fast as you can, without hitting a mine. On the Mac App Store since 2015, MineX keeps the original rules and board, rebuilt as a native macOS app.
NO GUESS, BY DEFAULT
- MineX builds each board around your first click, then checks that every safe square can be found from that opening by deduction alone. No more 50/50 at the end of an Expert game.
- On Beginner, Intermediate and Expert, the board is ready within milliseconds of your first click.
- Clicking at random no longer pays off. Mark the squares you have not worked out yet with a question mark: Command-right-click with a mouse, or turn on Question Marks and press Space twice on a trackpad.
- It is still Minesweeper, with no undo and no hints: misread a number and you open a mine, so every best time is earned.
- Prefer the classic random boards? Switch No Guess off in the Game menu or Settings.
- No Guess works on Custom fields too, and warns you when a field is too dense to create in time.
- Classic and No Guess share Best Times and Game Center leaderboards.
BUILT FOR SPEED
- The classic look speed players know: gray squares, a mine counter, the face and a timer, with nothing else to read
- Squares open the moment you release the button, as in the original, with no animation to wait for
- Full screen hides the Dock, the menu bar and every other window, leaving only the board. Boards larger than the screen scroll.
GAME REPLAY
- Replay your last finished game, or open a saved replay, at 0.25x, 0.5x, 1x, 2x or 4x speed
- Change the speed and follow the elapsed time and progress as it plays
- Save any finished game as a replay file and open it later
- Send a replay to a friend, or study someone else's
STATISTICS, FOR PLAYERS WHO COUNT
- Time, 3BV, 3BV/s, IOE, IOS, RQP and click count for every game
- Best times per standard level, with a non-flagging filter
- After every win, see how your time compares to your best and where it ranks, then click the rank to find that game in Best Times
- Game Center leaderboards for all six categories
LEVELS
- Beginner: 9x9, 10 mines
- Intermediate: 16x16, 40 mines
- Expert: 30x16, 99 mines
- Custom: up to 70x40, 999 mines, with presets
CONTROLS, YOUR WAY
- The first click always opens an area
- Left-click to open a square
- Space flags the mine under the pointer — no two-finger click and no Command key. Right-click and Command-click still work.
- Hold Space on a square to flag it, slide to a neighboring number, and let go to open around it. One press does both, without a hand leaving the trackpad.
- A single left click on a number opens the squares around it once its flags match. Both buttons and a double click do the same.
- Prefer a double click, or no left-click chording at all? Both are in Settings.
BUILT FOR MACOS
- Five board sizes, from 16pt to 48pt squares, for a comfortable game on any display
- Light, Dark or Auto, applied to the board and every window
- Synthesized sound effects, including an optional tink that tells you when a square you opened could still have been a mine
- Reduce Motion is respected
MineX is a single purchase. No ads, no in-app purchases, nothing to sign up for. Game Center leaderboards are the only online feature. Game Center is off by default on new installs; upgrades preserve your existing preference. The game, No Guess boards, your replays and your statistics all work offline.
Open a No Guess Expert board and find out how fast you can clear it without a single guess.

One thing to change!
Viiglante
Glad it works with new Mac OS. However, one thing to change is that when you're trying to clear squares by clicking on number make it a single-click. There is no need for cmd click or double-click. If that feature is changed or an option of single click is added then this is a 5/5 star game!
Developer Response
Thank you for the suggestion! MineX 2.0 now supports a single click on a number to clear the surrounding squares once the correct number of flags is placed around it. We hope this makes your games smoother and more enjoyable!
A rare thing. A developer who actually cares.

I’m changing my review because of outstanding customer service from the developer. When the custom game became unusable following an update, I left a 1-star review. The developer made some suggestions to resolve the issue, I emailed further information, and the issue was fixed in a couple of days. The game now works perfectly in “Custom” mode. The game is a fun-to-play classic with outstanding customer service.
Developer Response
Please use menu View > Original (Command + 1) to resize the board.
One thing I'd change

Overall, I think this is a very good recreation of the classic Windows Minesweeper. The only issue I have is having to double-click the numbers next to marked bombs in order to open up new squares. Single-clicking would make much more sense. Otherwise, this is probably the best Minesweeper game currently available on any Mac.
Developer Response
Thank you for the kind words and suggestion! In MineX 2.0, you can now single-click a number to open the surrounding squares once the matching number of flags is placed. We hope you enjoy the update!
Misrepresented??

The information given for this game implies there are several levels available. However, I paid $.99 for a very basic game with no indication about how to access more than a very, very basic level. With no apparant way available to contact the developer all I can do is post aone star review here, ask anyone else if they have figured out the key to accessing levels, and to warn others that they should think twice about purchasing this game. The good news is that I found it easy to play using the touchpad on my MacBook.

Sorry for any inconvenience. You can change game level by using the menu: Game > Intermediate (Command I) or Game > Expert (Command E).
MineX 2.2 speaks Vietnamese and German, and adds Subtract Flags, a new way to read dense boards. Your best times, statistics, settings and .minex replay files all carry over.
SUBTRACT FLAGS
- An optional way to read the board: each opened number counts down as you flag the tiles around it, so it shows only the mines still to find. 0 means all its mines are flagged; − means it has more flags than mines, so one of them is wrong.
- Made for dense Custom boards full of big numbers, where it saves you subtracting flags in your head. The rules don't change, and Best Times and Game Center are shared.
- Turn it on with Command-F, in the Game menu, the More menu or Settings. It can be switched mid-game, and replays follow your current setting.
LANGUAGES
- MineX is now in Vietnamese and German: every menu, window, alert, Help page and VoiceOver announcement.
- MineX follows the language of your Mac. To choose another, open Settings ▸ General ▸ Language; Relaunch Now reopens MineX in it.
NEW
- A status bar below the board shows the level, size, mine count and density, and the row and column of the tile under the pointer. Turn it on with Command-/ in the View menu, or in Settings ▸ Appearance.
- Hide Time shows --- on the clock while you play, and your time once the game ends. Turn it on in the Game menu or Settings ▸ Appearance. Replays always show the time.
- Settings has a Sound tab with a switch for each sound: the clock, opening tiles, flags and question marks, Lucky Guess, win, loss and new game.
- Settings has an About tab with the version and links to the website, Contact Us and Review on App Store.
IMPROVED
- Dense No Guess Custom boards spread their mines out instead of packing them into one corner, and they are made faster. The Customize sheet now warns only from 25% mines, up from 22%.
- MineX deals again when your first click would clear the whole board on its own, so a win takes some play.
FIXED
- Times, rates and mine density follow your Mac's number format everywhere. The You Won sheet no longer mixes a decimal comma with a grouping comma, and Statistics no longer always uses a decimal point.
