High Speed Spotting is now even more flexible. If a number matches more than one train and you need time to check your notes or do further research, choose Review Later and continue reviewing the remaining spots. Deferred numbers are kept safely. Open View Spots and select Waiting for Review to return to them whenever you’re ready. We’ve also improved the train details screen on iPhone Duo. In landscape, the expand-image button now remains clear of the on-screen controls. This update also includes minor interface and reliability improvements.

Improved photo handling and more control over your saved images. • Improved the orientation of portrait and rotated photos when saving and displaying them. • You can now remove your own saved photos without deleting the sighting or haul. Tap the camera button on a train’s details page and choose “Remove one of my photos…”. • Default and donated images remain protected, and originals in your Photos library are kept. This release includes a major update to the Premium Database, incorporating the latest information from ICRS Stock Changes. Hundreds of additions and amendments cover locomotives, units and carriages, including changes to ownership, depots, names and withdrawals. Historic spotting is now easier than ever. When entering a train number, you can save the number only, continue to Full Details, or immediately record a Historic Spot using your preferred default date. These improved choices are also available when resolving duplicate-number results, making historic sightings quicker and more convenient. TrainSpotting is now fully ready for iPhone Duo, with layouts designed for folded, unfolded, portrait and landscape use. We’ve also added the new Departmental/Engineering class to the Underground type, making specialist Underground stock easier to browse and record. Saving a sighting with Full Details is now much faster. Your spot is saved immediately, while location details are added safely in the background when available. Introducing High Speed Spotting — a much-requested new feature for recording numbers rapidly while you’re out spotting. Use the large, purpose-built keypad to enter one number after another without waiting between spots. Each sighting is identified as High Speed for later review and, when location access is available, its location and GPS coordinates are recorded in the Notes. Duplicate numbers won’t interrupt your spotting. Simply keep entering numbers and choose the correct locomotives or items of stock when you finish. Find missing locomotives more easily with Realtime Trains. You can now check whether a locomotive may be operating today and where its service was last reported. Access Realtime Trains from the locomotive details screen or swipe left on a missing locomotive in Browse. We’ve also improved the Browse screen with clearer swipe instructions and a helpful explanation for first-time Realtime Trains users.

This update improves the reliability of Create a Spot and fixes an issue that could prevent a train number from being entered. When location access is enabled, spots recorded manually or with Siri now include the nearest place and GPS coordinates in their notes—including spots recorded using Save Number. You can also open a spot containing GPS coordinates and tap View on Map to see where it was recorded.

This update includes a minor bug fix and reliability improvements.

Version 42.0 improves reliability and makes recording sightings easier. • Fixed an issue that could cause Create a Spot to become unresponsive when entering a number on newer versions of iOS. • Number entry now opens with the numeric keyboard, while still allowing letters when required. • Duplicate-number selections are now remembered correctly, so you should not be asked to resolve the same vehicles again after each database update unless their identifying details have changed. • Additional minor fixes and improvements.

The much-requested ability to add photos to individual locomotives has arrived! If a default image already exists for the class, your submitted photo can now be allocated specifically to that locomotive number. When adding a photo, you can choose to submit it to TrainSpotting, save it locally with your sighting, or do both. This update also includes minor improvements and fixes.

Version 41.8 improves photo submissions, database refresh and Siri spotting. Photos are now submitted at full resolution in HEIC or PNG format. Duplicate-numbered spots are resolved more efficiently, with grouped choices and clearer depot information. Existing spot dates are retained during database updates. For Siri Spots just say “Siri” pause “Spot TrainSpotting” Siri prompts now match the Add, Continue and Cancel buttons shown on screen.
