تأسس الاتحاد العام للصناعات الفلسطينية عام 1999 كمؤسسة قطاع خاص، ويعتبر المؤسسة الوطنية التي تمثل القطاع الصناعي في فلسطين من خلال الاتحادات الصناعية المتخصصة، كما ويعمل الاتحاد العام على تطوير القطاع الصناعي، يتركز دور الاتحاد العام الرئيسي في تأهيل وتدريب الأعضاء وتمثيلهم بشكل فعال والدفاع عن مصالحهم لدى الجهات والمؤسسات المحلية والإقليمية والدولية، كما يقول الاتحاد العام بتطوير سياسات فاعلة في تطوير القطاع الصناعي وتنمية الاقتصاد المحلي
