MOTIF STUDIO vs. THE APPLE PHOTOS EXTENSION
Already using the Motif extension inside Apple Photos? That experience, Motif Classic is still there, and isn't going anywhere. It's a native way to build a photo book without leaving the Photos app: Motif analyzes your library, flows your best shots into 80+ beautiful layouts, and lets you personalize with themes, colors, and text.
Motif Studio is the fuller, standalone experience: open it directly for AI-authored storytelling, trip maps, people recognition, and a design assistant you can talk to. Motif Studio works across your devices, so you can access your Motif Studio projects on Mac, the web, iPhone, and iPad.

Super quality albums
MommyB72
I’ve been making family albums annually for 22 years, most of them with Apple since they launched what became Motif. It’s intuitive and easy to use. The quality of the books I have made are really good. Some of the photos I use are shot on the iPhone in jpeg, and many are also shot on my Canon in RAW, edited in Lightroom, and converted to jpeg. All look great in the book. The only complaint I have is that the templates haven’t changed in years. Same color schemes. They have some nice options, but it would be nice if they could be updated, or if more could be added. That said, by taking some time (actually, this step takes a lot of time) you can fully customize the colors of the pages, making something totally unique from anything they offer. A tiny bit of a star off as well for the price. But being a photographer in a photographer family, I’m pretty picky and quality should be important for anyone making a keepsake. It would be nice if they added different weights of paper, but the paper they use is nice. I was happy to see they did add an option for a lay flat book, which I might use for an upcoming special project.

Annual Photo Books for My Kids
R2DC3P
I make a 100 page album for each of my 2 children annually, so ease of use is SO important to me. This is my take on Motif: One thing I loved was that I figured out a way to use my photos as a page background. That was my favorite part of Apple's software and I haven't seen it anywhere else. Motif should make this an obvious selection in their layout options for the many who love this feature. (To use a photo as the background, simply select a layout where there is white space at the top and/or bottom of the page and you can actually drop a photo in that space. Then adjust the opacity so that your other photos jump off the page!) I REALLY love that Motif is an extension inside Apple's Photos so that I can just drag and drop pictures right from my library and right into the Motif book. (Yes, all within Photos!) I also like that I can use a photo more than once if I wanted (this is useful for backgrounds). It did take me a little while to get the software, but I now love it almost as much as the old Apple Photos software. As far as the photo book quality? Absolutely beautiful! I think with a few tweaks Motif will be on point all around. They offer limited layout options and no font options aside from size and color but I have a work around for the layout part at least...(tip: you can select any layout option they give and you can adjust the layout by making a photo box bigger or smaller or even deleting a box and resizing other boxes)...Hopefully they add more fonts soon! This is definitely my favorite since Apple's photo books. I love it! -Mark

Loved the Apple Books and coming to really like Motif
daisey2711
As a totally non tech-friendly girl I hated the idea of having to find and learn to use a whole new photo book program. I create one for every trip we go on with extensive formatting and text boxes so it has always been a lot of work. I started my latest project on 4 different vendors sites and gave up each time. They were too touchy or difficult to follow and place photos and to change fonts etc. Then I found Motif~ which was not without it's difficulties at first but it is much more intuitive so I was able to figure out what I was doing wrong and fix it without giving up! It is a bit touchy though. At one point I grabbed a 500 word text box to move it a bit and poof it disappeared. Still not sure why that happened but it was crushing as I had written directly into Motif and had no other reference for the text. (Didn't do that again!) Also, at the end when I was ready to check out Motif notified me that I had about 20 blank text boxes open that I didn't know about...So all in all I'd say it was a bit of a bumpy start on my first book but by the end I (almost) felt like I was creating in the old Apple program which I loved the simplicity of. I have just submitted my project for printing and am extremely happy with what I see on the screen. If it prints out like the AppleBook I will be over the moon. A bit nervous about the finished product being as slick as I'm used to but fingers crossed. I will re-submit a review on the finished book. My main thought~ stick with it and you'll really like the ease and functionality of this photo book spp.

Excellent for photo books
MCats2
I used Motif for two photo books with my MacBook Air. These were the first photo books I have ever prepared. I looked at several applications and programs and selected Motif because it appeared to be easier to use. I also liked it because I did not need to upload photos until I had completed the project. Although I had a learning curve at the beginning of the first photo book, I also found it relatively easy to make adjustments. I really liked the features - the many different page layouts and text options, the ways to move sets of two pages, the different kinds of photos books (hard cover or soft cover and different sizes), the ability to edit photos as I was working on the photo book. I have received each of these photo books from Motif. They were processed within 2-3 days, and both are beautiful. I had to call customer support twice, and both of those contacts were positive. The only thing I wish could be changed, although it may be difficult, is if one page could be changed at a time, rather than two pages. Otherwise, I highly recommend Motif. I will use Motif the next time I want to make a photo book - and actually can't wait to use Motif again. I am so pleased with Motif's application and product. Thank you!

What's New in Motif Studio 4.7.0
This release brings one shared cart across your projects, passwordless sign-in, bigger books, and faster, more familiar photo tools throughout.
One Cart, Every Project
Shopping across several projects is now a single trip to checkout. Gather multiple projects into one shared cart and check out together. It's far more convenient, and combining your orders saves you 30% on shipping.
Sign In with a Passkey
No more typing passwords. Both Apple and Google passkeys now work in the app, so you can sign in securely with Touch ID or your device passcode.
Bigger Photo Books
Square hardcover books can now hold up to 120 pages, so the long trips, the big years, and the stories you didn't want to cut short all fit in one book.
Replace and Textify, Right Where You Expect Them
Two favorite photo tools are back and easy to reach. Replace swaps a photo without disturbing your layout, and Textify turns a photo frame into a text box in one click. Add Text is smarter too: the wording it suggests now fits neatly inside its box.
Find Your People Faster
Motif now recognizes faces right on your device, so grouping and finding the people in your photos is quick and private. Finding every photo of one person takes a single click, and photos without a clear face are framed around the person or view they're really about.
Text Editing, Polished
- Letter spacing on every text surface, from tighter to widest, on books, cards, and calendars.
- Captions keep their contrast automatically in Chat, while leaving your chosen colors untouched.
- Add Text wording is sized to fit its box.
A Smarter Creating and Editing Assistant
- Create leans toward a lighter, more thoughtful photo selection and stops asking you to repeat yourself.
- The editing assistant handles quick tweaks and full book remakes in one conversation, showing your photos whole while it works.
A Few More Touches
- A fresh soundtrack for your memory videos, with a preview menu labeled by product.
- Handy links to the Motif website from the header and account menu.
- Clearer explanations when a project can't be opened by your account.
Everything is fully translated across every supported language, with help guides and screenshots refreshed to match.
