In 2 days I know more about composing sentences, both in speech and reading/typing characters. I have tried a lot of programs, apps and texts to help me with Mandarin, but all I ever learned were radicles, nouns (but not necessarily how to use them correctly in a sentence), pronouns and many verbs. So maybe I was able to fly through the first two major lessons because I am familiar with the characters or words and even some phrases, but until this app, I would struggle to get them into a correct sentence. I signed up for premium at only $7/mo, as I am rapidly synthesizing Mandarin unlike any previous time. I also signed up for a much pricier app (not endorsed by Domino) where I read pinyin, simplified Mandarin, listen to the pronunciation then recorded my pronunciation. While I’m sure AI checks my pronunciation, when it’s woefully off, a human voice corrects me. Once that subscription is over, I will move back into holding conversations with native Mandarin speakers. But I’m keeping Domino Chinese until they run out of material. With two different fluency levels, HSK courses as asides that train you to pass various levels should I need them and even a course for every day slang, Domino will keep me busy for at least a year and a half if I practice at least 2 to 3 hours a day. If I practice more I will become fluent more rapidly. The point is, I, or anyone can achieve fluent understanding, speaking and reading Mandarin from Domino. It’s amazing! If you want to learn how to write it by hand, I can’t speak to Domino yet, but there are some okay apps to practice handwriting characters, just don’t get suckered into high prices, as of now, none are worth it. Personally, I’d buy physical work books and drill just like learning handwriting in preK, kindergarten or even first grade. But that’s just me.

Felix’s method of breaking down characters makes Chinese manageable. I have been studying the platform Felix has created for over a year now and his method is unique and definitely worth a try. If you ever had any inclination to learn Chinese give domino a try you won’t be disappointed. Also the videos are priceless and make learning fun.

The good: Felix does a good job not scaring off beginners. I think this is a good course for beginners and people without lots of language study background, but someone with significant language study background may be better served by some mixture of textbooks and online dialogue videos/a one-on-one tutor. In fact, I would say the more you have studied languages, the more you will find Domino Chinese some mix of longwinded and annoying. The bad: There is lots of room for improvement:1. Occasionally get errors about "can't find my learning progress." These seem to be less common now. 2. The flashcards are annoying in that they often cover words not in the videos or are out-of-sync with the videos due to the course evolving. Additionally, equal weight is placed on obscure words as opposed to very common words. Fluency is more based on you knowing the top 500 or 1000 words completely as opposed to whichever words Felix chose to teach together in a lesson because the characters looked similar. 3. I think the coverage of grammar is good for beginners but longwinded and perhaps even confusing if you have a better background in language study. 4. Unfortunately vocabulary learning is done by related characters, so it takes a long time before you learn even basic words that you may need. 5. The course is advertised as "45 minutes a day", but some of the lessons take well over an hour when you add up the videos and quizzes.

This app is really good I have learnt sooooo much already thanks to babble . I am working on my Dutch even though I go to Dutch school it still works on me . Because my family lives in the Netherlands I have to speak Dutch to talk to my family that where babble comes in handy I simply take out my phone and start working and the best part is it is totally FREE isn’t that great !
