It was 42 years ago Sept 1978, when a small group of folks involved with the center for communications and development that started the station. The original frequency was 89.7. The station was located in the former housing projects on 4th and Aldrich north. The tower was located on top of a near by Sr housing unit that still stands today.And with only 10 watts of power, it was incredible where we were able to reach.The station was run by Jeanette Cotton, engineer was Nolan Kramer, who resides yet in new hope, Mn. Henry Joiner was the stations music director Kyle Ray and Tim DeBarge were our unbelievable evening D.j’s.I shared afternoons with Gary Johnson also known as the “Deacon “ and as the stations weekly announcers facilitator and station liaison for outside events. We began each day with 2 hours of gospel. Various church’s and announcing was done during that time. Followed by R and B format.Being the only station in the cities with that format, we had no idea how blessed we were.Highlights of the next 2 years was the wattage increase to 100 watts and the visits of legends including Prince which is where the very first prince album was played, Curtis Mayfield, Gap Band, and the visit of James Brown in February 1980.What on honor to say my career as I am sure many others began because of KMOJ, but in 40 years of unity in our community, it needs to be told even more today. I love 89.9 KMOJ. I have been listening to The People’s Station since I was a kid in the 90s. ( for the record i’m not talking about my parents played it , at the crib, while I was still in diapers. No! I’m talking about I was requesting my own songs in 94.) I have to set something straight right now, and I know this review of KMOJS TRULY AWESOME APP is not the time or place to do this, But, I don’t have Twitter, I got kids and normally I don’t have the time to tell the world how I really feel, . So Im gonna clear one thing up today: All you lil kids out there who like to talk about the 90s, like you remember the 90s I’m on to you. And we need to get this straightened out right now, in order to remember the 90s you have to have been born in the 80s (or earlier) It’s simple math. If you were born in 1990 or later, you don’t remember the 90s anymore then I Remember the 80s But I know why you do it. The 90s were awesome. You know it because someone told you about it And You want in on the best decade in recent memory But you missed it! You were so close, but you missed it. You were too busy crawling around in diapers and trying to figure out how to walk and eat solid foods and now you want to try to relive it but you can’t! That’s hit only happened once and it wasn’t for you. Anyways ,I recently moved out of the broadcast area. Now, I love this app! I can still bring unity to my community, and let my kids grow up with KMOJ in our lives. THE APP is Easy to use and we love Sunday morning services on the main station. Keep up the good work! I love KMOJ it keep meConnected to the news local and international I love the mornin show I try to listen to it every morning when my way home from work. I also try to listen to Glan Goldman he too is a good Edition to KMOJ keep up the good work.I almost forget I love love the Ice.

KMOJ- it’s dj’s- it’s content- it’s character- the ability of a radio station to be a family member for lack of a better explanation is one of a kind.
