FRAN is a dictionary portal of the Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian Language, which offers users the essential language manuals for Slovenian.
It contains:
• over 35 dictionaries,
• a linguistic atlas,
• language and terminology advice sites,
• a portal of Slovenian grammars and normative guides and other collections.
Searching through Fran is quick, simple and free. You can search through all dictionaries at the same time or choose specific dictionaries and search through them.
No particular prior knowledge is needed to use the portal since Fran automatically arranges research results from dictionaries in a logical way and thus helps you to interpret them. Research results are complementary to each other and show you the characteristics and usage of a given word from different perspectives.
Fran is interactive. Through the portal you can suggest new words to be described and vote for them, ask linguists for linguistic advice or suggest additions or corrections to existing dictionary entries.
Fran is growing because once a year we enrich it by adding new linguistic content.
