The Gardiner Shape Categories (low broad, low narrow, and tall narrow) have been added to the Pro level Glyph Select panel.

Added 2,200 new Royal names and spelling variants. Updated custom fonts with additional new hieroglyphs, now totaling 4126. Caught and squashed a potential bug when simultaneously typing and scrolling too fast.

Improved iOS26 compatibility! Many tweaks for better user experience. Added over 220 new personal Egyptian names. Dictionary now has 218,890 entries, all onboard!

New massive expansion of the Dictionary! The Dictionary is now over 218,000 words and phrases! All in the offline internal database. Thousands of new LemmaID links to the online TLA, and thousands of updated links for older dictionary entries. Updated a bunch of archaic or clumsy translations. Removed a bunch of redundant dictionary entries. Added many missing parts of speech.

Massive additions to the dictionary and the hieroglyph database! We have added over 33,000 new entries to the internal dictionary. That's a 33% increase in the total number of Egyptian words and phrases! All the new entries have been matched to LemmaIDs in the online Thesaurus Linguae Aegyptiae reference site. To support all these new spellings, we have also added nearly 1,200 new hieroglyph symbols to our custom font and database. Many of these glyphs are somewhat obscure and many other dictionaries only represent them as their respective Gardiner codes. In HieroglyphPro, you can see these words now as originally written. The total number of hieroglyphs in the App now is 4078.

User-defined dictionaries can now be imported from the Clipboard. You can now share new words by Email! Added about 400 new words to the base dictionary, all with lemmaID links to the TLA! Tweaks and code improvements.

Expanded the Phonetics/Transliteration table and harmonized it with J.P. Allen's Middle Egyptian text. We now support 595 Phonetic/Transliteration pairs. Version (2.40) continues the dictionary refinement with more consolidation of synonyms & duplicates. LemmaID links have been added to more than 500 new entries. Some minor bugs found and eliminated! About 100 new words added.

This new version (2.37) incorporates a significant effort to consolidate the main dictionary of its synonyms & duplicates.  We have also added a few hundred new lemma links to the on-line TLA database. Roughly one third of the dictionary has been processed, more will follow in the coming weeks.  The iPad layout of the TabBar was been restored to its original form.   In this version we have also added the "swipe left" to lemma links in the English -> Egyptian Results.  Finally, we have updated the Aviametrix Software catalog to include the new Pharoah Finder app and the Transliterator App. Check them out and Enjoy!

Huge Upgrade to the Dictionary! Over 30,000 new words!! The dictionary now holds 100,113 Egyptian words & phrases. This is the most complete digital Egyptian dictionary available. Now 44% of the dictionary has links to the corresponding Thesaurus-Linguae-Aegyptiae (TLA) entry. Plus: Five missing glyphs have been added. A bug which disturbed proper display of Hieratic has also been fixed.

A great new feature for Egyptologists! We have been given permission to started linking our dictionary entries to the Thesaurus-Linguae-Aegyptiae (TLA), a large academic database of ancient Egyptian words. Although most of the TLA is in German, it has a wealth of information about the words they cover, including where and when, in context, these words are found. At the moment, roughly 8,600 words in Hiero Pro are linked to the TLA. More will follow. For those words that have lemma IDs, when they are matched to a dictionary search the "lemma ID" number will appear at the bottom of each matching word's table entry. To access the TLA, swipe to the Left on that match. Linking to the TLA website requires an internet connection, the rest of Hiero Pro remains self-contained. In this version, we have also added 2,829 new words to the internal dictionary. These new words are mostly Divine and Royal Epithets, and common people's job titles. These new words and phrases are sourced from the Ancient Egyptian Sentence and Dictionary Project of Brandenburg-Berlin Academy. We gratefully acknowledge Simon Schweitzer's permission to use these data. Finally, we discovered and fixed an odd little bug which sometimes prevented inscriptions containing Nome glyphs such as NU4, or NL16, from being searched correctly using text entry.

In this update, we add 3,012 non-personal names to the dictionary. These include place names, names of divinities (major deity variants plus minor deities and demons), additional royal names, and the names of various institutions and estates, etc. The full dictionary now has 64,650 entries! Coming soon: new epithets and job titles!

We received a lot of positive feedback from Annual ARCE (Egyptology) Meeting. This update content was suggested by the UCLA group who requested more Egyptian personal names and epithets. Today we add 1575 personal names bringing the internal dictionary to 61,642

First, a bit of housekeeping. Up to now, the Hiero Pro App forwarded to us some anonymized usage and crash data. Between the documented stability of the App, and Apple's emphasis on user privacy, we no longer collect these data. If, going forward, you should have some kind of issue with the App, please contact us directly through the Settings/Feedback link. We truly appreciate all feedback! We have added 806 new words and phrases from the AED/AES Project. The new total is 57,831. Some AED entries use Latin integers in their transliteration and Gardiner Codes, for example: Overseer of the Court of the Six Houses G17-D21-Aa21-S43-G43-N35-F18.X1-G36.X1-6. and   im.i-rA-wDa-mdw-n-Hw.t-wr.t-6 These will now be correctly searched and displayed. Cleaned up the Help Section a bit.
