This app can help you generate the bones for great beats, and I like to use it as an assistive tool (rather than just generating a beat and calling it good)! I really like the interface, and the sound set is very good. I appreciate how you can just switch out the sounds easily and quickly, without it changing the melody, and I like how it’s not just pulling loops from a pool. I do want at least a little more say in what the beat sounds like; Sometimes I like the beat a lot, except for one thing. It’d be cool if there was a piano roll function where you could add, remove, and edit notes. Then I’d be able to make some custom things as well, while still using the amazing sound set that’s included in this app.As far as assistive creation tools go, I like this one a lot!

Honestly loved of organized the old design was and how you had better controls of what you wanted to keep and do with it. This new update was a change in look which I saw was for an aesthetic change but at the price of usefulness. You can’t simplify the parts, can’t mix how loud they are anymore, can’t change the syncopation nor make it export without crashing over and over and when you finally get it to export something like your separated drum midi with multitrack stems in wav and midi, it doesn’t export the whole 11 files even when you try to put it on google drive or simply to save onto your device. This new update came at the cost of 90% of what I liked and used this app for. It was useful and organized. Well put together and made sense with actual functioning things not just aesthetic. Can this please be fixed. I’m actually incredibly disappointed and I’ve been a customer with a premium subscription with them for almost a whole year. Almost uninstalled the app because of this new update.

First thing I need to get outta the way is telling writer’s block to take a hike! “So go on and get outta here writer’s block! Nobody wants your kind around so just make like a banana and split!”Sorry y’all had to witness such a gruesome scene.. Now that’s outta the way…I have been using Songen since like week 2 of it’s birth. I released a song back in December that Songen helped with. The loop it gave me ended up being the chorus for the song then I manipulated the MIDI files for the rest of the song to my tastes, which I wouldn’t have gotten the idea if Songen wasn’t around.. I personally prefer to export the loop to make into my own song with Logic Pro.I use the full song generate to freestyle over or sometimes to get some ideas on how to go about the intro for my song…I’ll admit, there has been some seriously annoying bugs here and there, but they have always been taken care of by the devs immediately. You can tell they’re passionate about their work.Here recently, Songen has been generating 2 bar loops instead of 4 or 8 bars.. I’d say I began to notice it was giving 2 bar loops about a week ago.. Which idk if this was intentional or not, but it’s only annoying because I have been frequently getting t2 bars generates more often then not.A feature I would love see come to fruition is instead of having 4 tracks Songen helps you with, but 5 or maybe 6 tracks?? I feel it’d help add more depth and fullness..With or without it though, Songen is my go-to Co-Producer when my creative juices aren’t cooperating with me.Keep up the amazing work Devs!

Number one: this thing can spit out basslines, chords, and leads in multiple genres that are definitely inspiring and certain to be useable in your projects. Nothing too weird or out there, though with the subscription features you can certainly get there too, but for the most part it puts out standard genre fair, but still good. I do wish the drums were a bit more varied and groovy, sometimes you can hardly tell the difference between one drum beat and the next in the same tempo.What I don’t like is the cumbersome interface that requires a lot of menu diving and scrolling to access all the options. For example if I want to generate a new bassline, but keep everything else, I have to navigate to all the other instruments’ options and click “lock notes” and then leave the bass unlocked and then tap “generate” rather than simply having a button on each instrument to generate new material for only that instrument. Then there’s a completely different section to choose a genre for each instrument. Overall it could use some streamlining. Another app in this genre is Beatly Pro, it spits out completely different type stuff but it’s interface is much more musical and fun to use, perhaps that could be a point of inspiration for you developers. Also, the save system is a bit weird. It’d be simpler to have a classic “save vs save as” system. As it is now, I can’t give a project a custom name when clicking save, again I have to navigate out to the main menu to edit the name, and when going back to the generate screen it’s not clear which project I’m in or how it’s going to be named if I save changes. Anyways though, bottom line is the material is good and inspiring enough. It does what it says it does for sure.
