Walkabout mini golf and the VR concept is exceptional. Needless to say, i was thrilled with the pocket edition coming out. There are so many glitches. Between disappearing holes, wonky shot lines that make it impossible to control the aim, dark/blind spots hindering your ability to see your contact with the ball, glitches in the course so you don’t know where your hitting, erased data and more, the game becomes frustrating to play because those will turn around your entire score. There are no foxhunts. I’ll play the game when sitting at the airport waiting for a flight but I’m in no hurry to put down what I’m doing to play a game that’s this glitchy.

I’m a huge fan of the VR edition so I immediately purchased this to support. After trying it, I have to say I’m a bit disappointed. It feels a bit like a rushed port. The most glaring issue is the lack of the ability to turn off the accelerometer mode. I get the whole gimmick of actually swinging the device to put but the whole appeal of this game being on iPhone is being able to play in the car, on the toilet, on a plane, at a desk. Worrying about which way the phone is pointing in order to see is super annoying. The swipe controls to walk around and turn are more than enough. Second, why do you emphasize cross play but don’t let us randomly match with someone? The fun part is playing multiplayer and random matches with people. Now we either need friends in a custom room or we just play alone. The menu system is buggy and at times UI is overlaying itself over other boxes. Really hoping you continue to dial this one in because I am in your corner and want this to be great!

I’m a big fan of the VR version of WMG, and it’s my go to game that I constantly return to on my headset over all the others. This iOS version is an amazing mobile port, and it plays and looks exactly the same as its VR counterpart. The additional pull-back control in portrait is amazing. Even if you haven’t played the VR version or do not have access to one, you can still play with your VR friends in multiplayer, and even the single player experience alone is worth it with all of the available amazing DLC courses. If you’re looking for a new iOS game to sink hours into and love minigolf, then look no further!

If you’re a fan of pool games and putting simulators this game is for you. Great if you have a few minutes of downtime. There are quite a few courses with the base game and additional for purchase. One issue I had was there doesn’t seem to be a way to have a stationary camera angle (uses phone movements to pan) however seems like it would be an easy update to make. There is also a feature to putt with the phone movement but reminds me how bad my putting game is in reality. Overall fun and challenging with interesting course layouts.
