I must start by saying that I highly recommend this app for recertification, if you’ve already taken an in-person course. The app was easy to use, had great information and was completed as quickly or slowly as you’d like. I was a couple of days out from needing to get re-certified and didn’t have approved trainings that worked with my schedule. This was everything I needed! The phone holding takes a bit to get used to, but there is practice modules to help you work it out. Once you get down the pace and depth, it’s simple.

Since I’m a solo certified personal trainer at the moment I find in-person (recertification) CPR/AED courses a little difficult to find/schedule. I saw this option through ACE and decided to give it a go. The app is mostly easy and straightforward to use. The information presented appeared to be all correct and very short, sweet and to the point. I loved that. Questions were straightforward for the most part. I think some of the text-heavy sections were a little dense to read on a phone but that’s ok. Video content provides a helpful visual. The CPR assessment with the phone was challenging to figure out at first - took me several tries to figure out how to hold the thing without dropping it and then ensure that the app was properly picking up my compression movements and rates. I did figure it out and it definitely seemed to accurately assess my movements during the eval so I was glad about that. Just wish the instructions weren’t upside down for me and the phone was more comfortable to hold. If you have small hands this might be difficult to use. So aside from some struggles with the CPR assessment I think this was a good app that presented good/proper information in a concise manner. I would consider using this again if needed - hopefully they can make some updates to the functionality. Note - I would highly recommend going through CPR/AED training in-person if this is your FIRST time with it. If you’re an experienced professional and feel comfortable with the information/actions then this can definitely be a good option for re-certification.

It wasn’t completely ideal, holding the phone while doing chest compressions was hard and more taxing. I accidentally turned the phone off while doing that. I don’t feel like it covered as much info as my in-person CPR/AED first aid course but since I was already certified before I feel okay with this app. It never crashed or glitched so that is a plus. It did make a quiet alarm noise during the certification and embarrassingly enough, I was walking around my apartment trying to figure out where the alarm was coming from. Listening to walls and trying to follow the sound. Didn’t realize it was coming from the app until I brushed my hair with the same hand as my phone and then held it to my ear like wait a minute! Sure enough, that was it. That was annoying and distracting. I guess I would say this isn’t the best course but it will do in a pinch.

I used to be a CPR & First Aid instructor, but let my certification lapse. I was frustrated trying to find a class locally to get my CPR/AED certification to become a group fitness instructor. This app was the perfect solution. Perfect amount of refresher info and the evaluation was fairly accurate for the CPR rate and depth aspects. Probably not great for someone who has never been certified before…. But for those just needing to recertify, this is the perfect option!
