Routes are available for DMV road test locations in California and DPS road test locations in Texas, with more states being added. Built from driving instructor knowledge, learner feedback and AI route data, and kept up to date.

GPS NAVIGATION DESIGNED FOR NEW DRIVERS
Clear spoken directions take you through every turn, so you can keep your eyes on the road. Lane guidance shows you which lane to be in ahead of turns, intersections and freeway exits. The speed limit is shown on screen as you drive, and maps are updated monthly to reflect new road layouts.

Connect to CarPlay and your directions appear on your car's display. No need to hold or look down at your phone.
MOCK TEST MODE
Drive a route the way you will on test day. Follow the directions, check your own mirrors and blind spots, and make your own decisions without coaching from the person in the passenger seat.
GET USED TO FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS
On the road test, the examiner tells you where to turn as you go. Practicing with spoken directions gets you used to hearing an instruction, planning ahead and acting on it in good time.

RouteBuddy is designed to work alongside driver's ed and behind-the-wheel lessons, helping you get more out of practice time in between.
Road test routes are generally not published, and examiners can vary them, so no app can tell you your exact route. RouteBuddy focuses on the roads around your road test location, so test day holds fewer surprises.
Road test location addresses come from public state DMV and DPS office listings. Practice routes are not set, supplied or approved by any government agency.
RouteBuddy is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the California DMV, the Texas DPS or any other government agency.

What’s New
RouteBuddy is now smoother and more reliable for practicing road test routes.
• New Route complete screen when you finish a route, with the distance driven, the time taken and how many of the routes at that test location you've practiced
• If you end a drive after covering at least 90% of the route, it now counts as completed and gets the Practiced tag
• When you reach the end of a route, a Route complete card lets you finish right away, on CarPlay too. Driving on to park no longer brings up "Return to route" or a reroute
• Music and other audio now dip only while a voice instruction plays, instead of staying turned down while you navigate
• CarPlay: your car's radio no longer stops for the whole drive, and the map no longer freezes for a few seconds before the first instruction
• Route recording shows its GPS status as you drive and can start without cellular data. If location access is lost, it pauses and picks up the same route once it's back
• Back no longer throws away a recording without asking
• If RouteBuddy closes during a recording, it offers to save it the next time you open the app
