Appendicitis inflammatory response (AIR) score has been used in both paediatric and adult patients with large external validation study. Alvarado score also predicts likelihood of appendicitis diagnosis. The Alvarado Score was initially described in 1986 by Dr. Alfredo Alvarado in a retrospective single centre study in Philadelphia. It is one of the most commonly used formula to diagnose appendicitis nowadays. While RIPASA score is similar to both AIR score and Alvarado score. It typically provides a quantitive value for a clinician's clinical gestalt of appendicitis. It has been most widely studied in Asian populations (Singapore, India) and less so in Western populations.
