Peekskill History uses mapping technology to allow the user to tour around and learn the history of Peekskill, NY. Peekskill is a small city situated in New York State’s Lower Hudson Valley. The tour can be done either in-person or virtually. The map has various sites of historical interest marked with pins. When you click on a pin, a pop-up window will appear with photos of (or relevant to) that site. Below the main photo will be a description explaining what specifically is of historical importance. Essentially, they are digital historical markers. Or to look at it another way, an online local history museum in your pocket that allows you to visit the actual historical sites. The purpose of this app is to make the history of Peekskill exciting, more accessible, and better understood. It is for residents, students, tourists, or anyone with an interest in the area. Peekskill is a small city with a long, varied, and complicated history. The exhibit will provide visitors with a better understanding of that history.
