READING THE TABLE
- Ages are the ages people turn on their birthday this year. If their birthday has not come yet, subtract one.
- School grades follow the Japanese school year, which starts in April. Notes in the app explain how early-year birthdays shift the grade.
- Celebrities are grouped by Japanese school year rather than calendar year.
GOOD FOR
- Working out which Gregorian year a Heisei or Showa date refers to
- Checking how old a family member or friend turns this year
- Finding unlucky ages (yakudoshi) and traditional longevity milestones
- Seeing which celebrities share a school year, or what happened in a given year
- Following how births and population have changed over time
GOOD TO KNOW
- An internet connection is needed to load the tables.
- The app shows ads.
- Google Firebase is used for usage analytics and crash diagnostics. In some regions, you can turn each on or off under Data Collection Settings in the menu.
- The app uses statistical data published on e-Stat, the Portal Site of Official Statistics of Japan, collected and organized by Hinokoto Studio. This is not an official app provided or endorsed by the Government of Japan, any ministry or agency, the Statistics Bureau of Japan, or the National Statistics Center.
- The app appears in English or Japanese, following your device language.
- For questions or feedback, choose Contact Us in the app menu.
