Description

Test your strategic thinking with this ancient board game from South Asia. The game is played with two players - one player controls tigers and the other controls goats. The goats objective is to advance slowly but surely to trap all tigers and the tigers aim is to prevent this by making it difficult for goats to advance.

Goats always move first when the game begins and they can move one square in any direction. A goat may not jump over other goats or over tigers.

Tigers move somewhat like the rook in chess - any number of places horizontally or vertically. They can even jump over a single goat if there is an empty square behind the goat. When this happens, the goat is killed and removed from the game. Tigers cannot move diagonally.

The game ends when tigers kill 4 goats (tigers win!) or when goats advance and trap all tigers (goats win!). Players alternate playing goats and tigers.

Fun game for the whole family

Love playing this game on an iPad or Mac. The marathi name for this game is Wagh Shelya.

One suggestion to the developers is to add an undo button somewhere - sometimes I end up moving a goat carelessly and realize too late it can be eaten by a tiger.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for the feedback and hope you are enjoying our recently released 2-Player mode. Your request for an undo button will be passed on to our product team. Stay tuned!

Thanks for making this game digital, but

One player mode has you play yourself. OK. But that’s not great. Ever played yourself in
Chess? Not really. Thing. // also feedback. It’s distracting to have all the goats in this visible ring around the periphery of the board. If you could mimic the physical game, pieces would be placed from the side. (Although, perhaps I admit I have the version, and is different from this. Mine is Tibet I think. ). Thx!

Developer Response ,

EDIT: We now have a new 1-Player mode where you can play against AI and try to trap all tigers. The old 1-Player mode has been renamed to "Practice". Just update to the latest version to access this new mode and let us know what you think.

Thanks a lot for your feedback. As you pointed out, this game is slightly different from the original Bagh Chal game but I've heard this version is also played in some parts of Asia such as Nepal and India. Also, fair point about 1 Player mode. This is mainly to help beginners learn basic strategies or for 2 players to play on a shared device. If you want to play this in 2-Player mode directly with one of our developers, please send an email to support[AT]mishasoftwaresolutions.com - we will be in touch and would love to play with you!

Simple yet challenging

Good introduction to 2-player strategy games for beginners. Easy to learn and play compared with chess or go. Hard for goats to trap tigers if tigers play optimally.
