Explore the infinite beauty of fractals with your fingertips. Pinch to zoom, drag to pan, and dive into the endless detail of the Mandelbrot set and its relatives — rendered in real time on your device's GPU.
xFractal, first released in 2008, is back — rebuilt from the ground up for today's iPhone and iPad.
FEATURES:
• Mandelbrot, Julia, Newton and Multibrot fractals
• Deep zoom: magnify the Mandelbrot and Julia sets more than a trillion times
• Four classic palettes — Hot, Cold, Gray and Chromatic — with smooth coloring
• Julia presets (Dendrite, Spiral, Rabbit, Galaxy, San Marco), Multibrot exponents 2–8, three Newton polynomials
• Replay: watch your whole exploration animate back as a short movie
• Picks up exactly where you left off
• Free and open source
Deep zoom uses K. I. Martin's perturbation technique.
Nice and fast, although it does regenerate areas of the screen it doesn't need to, for instance during a translation. Also when changing the color scheme it should be able to do this via a direct transform rather than a rebuild. Other minor quibbles: no "home" button (at least I couldn't find one) and the color schemes other than greyscsle are a little "bitty", especially the chromatic one which doesn't seem to be as good as the old VGA version. Lastly the images are saved out as jpeg I think, so you lose quite a lot of the detail.
Good fractal explorer
netdance
A very good fractal explorer app. Some of the color options could be improved, but this is overall the best fractal explorer program that I've found on the iPhone. And, it's free!
Great job!
GaloisFieldsForever
This app gives a unique way to zoom into a fractal that you haven't seen before which is really fun. A solidly designed and also well implemented app, I have only two suggestions. One is a bug fix regarding accuracy when zooming in, and the other would be to add even more advanced options like seen in fracture, the screen saver. All in all, this app is exactly what it should be!
Beautiful
nuthatch_
When I was a kid I had a collection of fractal postcards... This beautiful and intuitive app is a mind-boggling improvement on those static images. Good use of touch interface, renders surprisingly quickly, and a very nice collection of initial states. Thank you!
