This altimeter delivers the altitude of your current position either from the device (GPS) or from the ASTER digital elevation model (with a horizontal accuracy of 30m). Depending on your current position and your device one of the two methods is more correct. Using GPS on the device is known for a large error in the altitude for difficult receiver conditions it's not available for network based positioning at all. Therefore this altimeter works on iPods and iPhones without a GPS sensor. More features: - switch between metric and feet units - set an optional target altitude - switch between Device, ASTER and combined altitude - support for the iPad multitasking (split view..)

Honda 2 wheeler
I love it. It was a quick and easy download and took off working right away. I was away from home in Wyoming and wanted to know the altitude where we were. Worked great especially with having two options to determine the altitude. Good enough for my purposes.

EXTRA-ECCLESIAM-NULLA-SALUS
One of the first Downlaoders here (YEARS AGO) and have probably recommended downloading this app to a good 100-150 people. No one seems to know about ASTER based elevation mapping, oddly enough. The military/DOD has its own “ASTER” database which is accurate to a few millimeters!!! (If they would allow us access). The database this uses is called GeoNames. It is in the apps small print and is very accurate according to my land survey. Accurate to a 1-2 feet in elevation!But this is a FANTASTIC APP for precise gps navigation. In all the years this app has been available, they have NEVER “discontinued” or abandoned the app to begin a more “robust” version in an attempt to “squeeze” people for more $$. They regularly update it and it is the best and only “exact elevation app” I have. About a year ago, I did a search in the App Store, and there was only ONE OTHER app that featured ASTER, oddly! I guess people are not as finicky like me about aviation navigation…Consider purchasing their IAP’s as well. Great developers!
