A calm medieval trade empire, built on the real world.
No timers. No stress. No reflexes. Merchant turns the streets and cities around you into a living medieval economy — and lets you build it one unhurried decision at a time.
Found your first settlement at a real-world location, survey the land, and turn raw resources into refined goods through deep production chains. Connect your towns with trade routes, grow your population, and watch a humble camp become a prosperous empire that spans real cities and regions.
Made for unhurried afternoons — a few thoughtful minutes whenever the day allows. Your empire waits for you.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Found settlements at real places — a medieval map grows over the world you already know
- Master production chains — turn wood, stone and ore into lumber, bricks, food, wares, relics and luxuries
- Trade smart — move goods along trade routes to where they earn the most
- Send specialists — dispatch gatherers, carriers, minstrels and more from your caravan
- Barter with Tribes — trade and earn respect with independent settlements
- Grow your Realm — climb from district to city to region, raise your Might Score, earn noble titles
- Play with others — a persistent, shared world of fellow merchants
CALM BY DESIGN
There are no countdowns forcing you back. Nothing punishes you for putting your phone down. Merchant is a slow-strategy, cozy empire builder for people who love economy, trade and tycoon games but not the grind — a location-based game you play entirely at your own pace.
Free to play, with optional in-app purchases.
Merchant uses your location to place settlements on the real-world map. The game is played in English.
Ok this game is great and has huge potential. The amount of stuff you can do at its current state is awesome to me. Wish more players played to make even more interesting. If you play currently or will play drop Robert Kennedy .... of New York a friends request. Even if it’s just to know someone that plays currently since most of the players I looked up last log in was two years ago. Ok back to game content. Ok you get to set up camps anywhere in the real world. They give you options what type of products or resources they produce. There is no limit on how many camps/castles you can own. You can dispatch a person to retrieve the products from any camp without having to go to the camps now which is nice. You find treasure, animal herds, npc camps/traders, etc. throughout the world. I currently have my two main camps at my home and my work since I visit them everyday and my biggest ore producing camp at my Tim Hortons where I get my coffee daily LOL.... that way I can collect on the run and upgrade anything needed. You have to be at location to upgrade buildings unless I can store the resources there needed and upgrade from home camp I have not tried that yet. It’s worth a try for anyone who likes person to person markets where the players make the costs and are the only providers. You gain exp. with everything you do and as your avatar goes up in levels and titles more building options and other open up. If your lucky enough to be by other players that play you can create trades/routes or create allies helping each other out or attack their settlements etc.
Hmm..

There is occasional game crashes, but besides that it’s a good game I would like to see it restored to its former “glory” days. A few minor updates, I started playing recently on my iPhone 6 and it runs like it should. I mean the occasional struggle to find my location and such but that’s workable the game itself is glorious, but honestly, a few minor improvements to the game would be nice. (Army build ups and camps, I don’t know if that’s a function yet I haven’t met anyone else currently playing.) (hunting animals, and gathering food, such as berries fruits vegetables to farm.) instead of finding already domesticated animals) This games potential crazy.

I would rate it higher because it is enjoyable however having to drive back to the location where you made a settlement is a pain! You should be able to control yields and production from your main (original) town. Since you can't, if you wish to upgrade or be able to even FIND other players to trade with then hop on your bike or in your car because you have to goto that location to upgrade. If it wasn't for my brother setting up a town near mine I would have to drive around and make random settlements looking for other players. At least I can gain levels from his village now. DEVS, Please consider letting us control upgrades and production from our home base !!! Don't care if it takes longer or uses more resources, just tired of driving around looking for trade posts and other players!!

We listened and released a new version.
Nothing Else Like It..

This is simply an amazing game. There is nothing else in terms of phone games that is like it. It’s like a much deeper, multiplayer version of Settlers of Cataan. The player base is amazing, and cultivates a spirit of friendly, light-hearted competition. A fair number of us have played since the earlier versions around 15 years ago. The current version of the game is the best yet! They’ve really fleshed out the RPG side of things with the tribal mechanics. We also have a player run discord, where the dev team is regularly active. Come join us and build your kingdom on your real-life hangouts!
The great arenas of the world have opened.
• Four hundred and six real arenas, across nine countries, now fly a Banner of their own. Pledge to one, and what you carry there is what raises it. You are free to leave for another whenever you like.
• Five kinds of support hold a Banner up: People, Food, Arms, Building and Luxury. The weakest of the five counts most, so a Banner is only as strong as what it lacks.
• A raised Banner pays its bannermen every day, in gold and in favors, and the three who gave most are named Champion, Companion and Guardian.
• Castles now climb: Castle, Crown Castle, Royal Castle, Imperial Castle. Each step widens the ground you can hold vassals on, and widens by just as much the ground others may march from to take yours.
• Before you lay siege, the march stands on the screen beside the castle. Your own castle decides how long an army of yours may be on the road.
• A title you earn is put on the moment it outranks the one you wear.
• Smaller comforts: the food market stall shows what your own caravan already carries, the instant sell opens on your largest pile, and a garrison reads as one line for each kind of soldier.
