Kami Typing! Typing trainer
Japanese flick typing game
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Type faster, rank higher: your typing speed (WPM) decides which Japanese god you become. Words, sentences, kanji and English prompts grow for free. Climb the ranking.
Kami Typing is a Japanese typing game where your typing speed (WPM) decides your rank among the gods. It is not just a speed drill: the faster you type, the higher you rise, from shrine maiden to the highest deity.

more There is one thing I'd like to have the app do. It would be nice to have it alert you to incomplete or incorrectly spelled words. Other than that, it is a good app. I very much dislike the cartoon artwork. The cartoon graphic looks like it came from a low-budget cartoon for pre-school aged kids. It cheapens an otherwise serious and helpful app.

Really great app, serves one purpose in your Japanese learning and that is to help you learn the iPhone Japanese keyboard and it’s awesome. Super simple, non invasive ads (even though I believe the $5 is worth it to remove them) and really helps your learning and typing proficiency. Would recommend

26.11.1 41m ago

- The leaderboard now shows other players' favorite God Cards. Your favorite God Card is also shown to others in the Ranking Challenge and event rankings.
- The Ranking Challenge results screen now shows your rank for the current period.
26.10.28 4d ago
- New "Events": defeat a boss together with everyone. During an event, every correct character you type in regular practice damages the boss, and players on iPhone and Android fight together. You earn monster cards as you deal damage. The first boss, Shuten-dōji, arrives on Nov 5 at 5 pm Japan time.
- "Fight the Boss" lets you battle it directly by typing falling words. Call a cheer beforehand and help arrives when things get dangerous. You can call a cheer with a video or Kotodama, or by sharing the boss's status on social media (once a day).
- With the kana keyboard, a wrong character is now rejected on the spot instead of being entered, so you no longer need to delete it and retype (regular practice and Ranking Challenge; with the system keyboard, when "Hide conversion suggestions" is on).
- Improved iPad layouts: the portrait practice screen and the results screen are rebuilt for the iPad's size, and choosing the on-screen keyboard now works properly.
- Fixed the see-through background when you get a God Card, and other bugs.
26.10.27 5d ago
- New "How-to Videos" in Settings: short videos with tips for flick typing (they open in YouTube).
- When you play with the iPhone kana keyboard, you can now type one character at a time without conversion suggestions. Turn it on or off in Settings > "Hide conversion suggestions". Add dakuten and small kana with the ^^ key.
- The results screen now shows the God Card you got at the bottom right. The previous rankings are in the Ranking Challenge leaderboard.
- Sharing a God Card on X now includes a message.
- A new look for "Remove Ads" in Settings.
- Fixed overlapping items on the results screen on small screens, and other bugs.
26.10.16 Oct 17
- New "God Cards": depending on your result, you get the card of the god for your speed level and collect it in your card book. Collect duplicates to awaken a card — it earns a star and its frame turns silver, gold or rainbow.
- Pick a favorite card and display it on the home screen. View cards full screen and tilt your device (or drag with your finger) to make them shine. You can also share them with friends.
- New "In-app keyboard" for the game: a Japanese kana flick keyboard with the same layout as the iPhone's, with no conversion suggestions so you can focus on typing (Japanese topics). Switch it in Settings > "Game keyboard" or at the top left of the game screen.
- New "Blind typing": hide the letters or the keys of the in-app keyboard and practice without looking. It unlocks once you have the "Divine Keys" badge and have awakened a God Card of Lv10 or higher to 1 star.
- Added a Login Bonus for your first 7 days and Gems for joining a Ranking Challenge.
- The Settings button on the home screen is now at the top right and Badges at the top left, matching the results screen.
- Fixed an issue where the vibration on a mistake sometimes didn't play, and other bugs.
26.10.14 Oct 14
- New "Badges": collect 15 emblems for daily practice, no-miss runs, Ranking Challenges, the Kotodama Ritual and more. Open the list from the medal at the top right of the home screen or from "Badges" in Settings. For badges you haven't earned yet, "Try it" takes you straight to that mode.
- VoiceOver reads each badge's condition and your current progress.
- When the app is shown in English, Korean or Chinese, the remaining Japanese text in the Gem Shop, past topics, Repeat Drill, Ranking and other screens is now translated.
- Share, How to play and Q&A links now open the page in the app's display language.
- Minor bug fixes and stability improvements.
Enjoy Kami Typing — the more you type, the closer you get to the gods.
26.10.8 Oct 9
- New "Classic Design": switch back to the original shrine maiden art and the original app icon at any time, for free. Pick it from "Home art" in Settings — the app icon changes to match.
- "Home art" in Settings now lets you choose the art and "With Miko-san / Shrine only" in one place. Pick from the strip of thumbnails and preview your home screen right there.
- The Ranking Challenge screens have a brighter gold-and-purple look. The top three on the leaderboard now shine in gold, silver and bronze.
- "About Developer" now follows smaller text size settings on your device.

- Minor bug fixes and stability improvements.
Enjoy Kami Typing — the more you type, the closer you get to the gods.
26.9.21 Sep 21
- Fixed an issue where a failed ad-removal purchase ended silently. The app now tells you right away when a purchase could not be completed.
- Minor bug fixes and stability improvements.
Enjoy Kami Typing — the more you type, the closer you get to the gods.
26.9.12 Sep 12

・The practice screen now shows the difference between what you typed and the prompt in English, Korean and Chinese too.
・Fixed some screens that could show "undefined" instead of the proper text.
・Adjusted when we ask you to rate the app: not only on a new record, but also at milestones after you have practiced for a while.
・Minor bug fixes and stability improvements.
Keep typing your way up to the gods.
26.9.6 Sep 6
・Every screen that stayed in Japanese after you switched the app's language is now translated. Picking a topic, topic packs, the Kotodama Ritual (the temple, the paths of summoning, choosing a training level) and the kotodama shop all appear in English, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.
・Topic pack names and descriptions now appear in your language too, including packs you already have.
・You can change the app's language under Settings → Language (it takes effect the next time you open the app).
・The words you type stay in Japanese — the kana and kanji are the thing you are practising.
26.9.1 Sep 1
・Added gems. Gems you buy can be exchanged for kotodama at any time.
・Three kinds of practice now open with gems.
- Ad-free pass: 3 gems stops ads for 24 hours.
- Repeat drill: build your own finger drills for tricky sequences and repeat them. Your speed is recorded so you can watch it improve on a chart.
- Practice past challenges: go back to a finished ranking round and take your time with it. Your practice run is shown next to the score you set for real.
・The app now follows your device text size. Turn text up in Settings and everything grows with it — the words you type, the home screen, the Kotodama Ritual and the topic packs.
・Fixed the screen freezing for a few seconds while typing. Sound effects were getting in the way of your keystrokes.
・Fixed iPhone and Android showing different words in the same ranking round. Everyone now competes on the same words.
・Reworked how the results screen appears. It no longer slides up from the bottom, and your score counts up from zero.
・Moved the balance chips off the shrine maiden's face, down to the bottom of the artwork.
・Fixed the topic pack screen drifting sideways.
・Fixed missing haptic feedback on several buttons.
26.8.27 Aug 27
・External keyboards now work on iPad. Move around the home screen, topic picker, Kotodama Ritual, results and ranking with the arrow keys and Enter, and go back with Esc. Your keystrokes are judged as typed even with Japanese live conversion turned on.
・Fixed the ranking table on iPad, which could not be scrolled by dragging or swiping. It now fills the screen so you can see many more places at once.
・Simplified the ranking screens. "View previous results" is now a "this period / last period" switch inside the ranking itself, and closing is handled by the × in the top right.
・In the Kotodama Ritual, the drill picker now starts on the level you have not cleared yet. When you come back from a drill you stay on the same god while levels remain, and move on to the next god once you have cleared them all.
・Fixed combo effects overlapping the "next up" preview and making it unreadable.
・Fixed the "live" badge on the home screen being clipped at the top.
26.8.18 Aug 18
・Redesigned the topic picker: smaller cards show more topics at once, each with a one-line example of what you'll type. Opening the screen now scrolls straight to your current topic.
・Rebuilt the topic pack screen. Packs are grouped into "available now", "unlock with kotodama" and "owned", the get button looks and works the same everywhere, and any shortfall is shown as a number.
26.8.12 Aug 12
- Tidied up the items on the Settings screen.
- The other apps listed under "About Developer" now stay up to date without waiting for an app update, so apps that are no longer available won't be left on the list.

- Fixed an issue where a ranking challenge could not be completed on the final question.
- Redesigned the new-record display on the result screen so you can see at a glance how much you improved.
