Ratings and Reviews
Probably the best free score app
This is the first app review I’ve ever bothered to do, but I’m writing this because I use this app the most and it deserves a good rating.
I’ve had this app for two years now and it’s perfect. Gives you scores, news, and in-depth stats from around the world, and decent quality video highlights for goals from the bigger league games - which is great for whenever I might be at work and can’t stream a game.
The recent updates are awesome and the new UI is clean and smooth. I really enjoy the live audio stream for big games that I might not be able to watch, especially if I might be driving - it’s like listening to any other game on the radio. I also enjoy reading the updates from the news section; although once in a while I’ll come across an article or two that borders on typical tabloid rumor-mill stuff - but 99% of their writing is great quality soccer journalism.
Lastly, one other thing that they get right is hiding the ads! I understand that most free apps use ads to make money, yet FotMob does a good job of making them into tiny banners that do not interrupt the flow of the app at all and are easy to ignore. As long as nothing drastically changes, I will always be using FotMob as my go-to for score updates and soccer news.
Pretty good, but it could be a little bit better
So far, this app has actually been pretty helpful. I haven’t really needed to look up the game that I’m interested in online thanks to this app having all of the games happening displayed for the day that they are being played. I will say that the app does miss out on a few things. When I was watching the 4/28 Sounders vs LAFC game, I was checking the app to see the score. It was near halftime, and it said that the game was 1-1 (which it was). The weird part was that it didn’t show the red card that was given to Cristian Roldan, even though it was in the 18th minute, until well after the game was over. The same happened with the red card that was given to Kelvin Leerdam (I watched the game from the 45th minute on and after Leerdam got the red I checked the app and it wasn’t there). Overall, it’s a very minor fault in the app that doesn’t really take away from how simple yet helpful it is, and I would rate it 4.5/5 on this review but I had to rate it to a full number, so I had to rate it 4/5.
The last few updates have broken this app. No matter what leagues are in your favorites, no matter how many times you turn notifications off from other leagues. You are going to get notifications from every single league in the world. Don’t care about that second tier Swedish team scoring? Too bad. Didn’t even know Peru had a league? Too bad here’s a notification one of their teams just scored. I’m about to delete this app because waking up every weekend with 500+ notifications on my phone is infuriating.
Edit: the developer emailed me and fixed the bug in less than a week. I’m glad to not get crazy notifications that someone in the U15 Argentina youth team or some such scored a goal at 4am anymore
Developer Response ,
We are extremely sorry about this! Can you upgrade to the latest version, it should be fixed there. Or hit the Test Notification in More->Notifications? Again, we messed up in one of the releases and tried to push a new update as fast as we could but some like you got the buggy version that introduced this mass alert bug.
