I agree with a previous reviewer that this used to be my go-to source for all things prayer book. Along with the inexplicable demand for a subscription came a design change that made it harder to use. But chiefly I note with Odin that the so-called Anglican tradition in North America had multiple functional daily prayer apps available for free and the Roman Catholics have a LOT of breviary-based apps available for free. It’s frustrating (and embarrassing) that I can’t find one integrated (with daily RCL readings) Episcopalian daily prayer app that is free. Just shameful. I understand copyright law, but Church Publishing is not doing the right thing here.

The text formatting in the brand new 3.x version is widely broken - many line breaks where they do not belong, and inconsistent line spacing in many places - all of which is distracting when attempting to use this app for prayer.PLEASE create a way to quickly and consistently return to the Canticles following a scripture reading. Would I need to ask this if anyone who actually uses this App in actual practice were involved in testing it?The only display font available has very thin verticals making it hard to scan-read, for older eyes, even when set to the largest size. It appears aesthetics overrode practical function on this point.Even though the BCP itself sets a clear formatting standard, including for rubrics, colors and italics are used inconsistently in many places in this app.The navigation is complicated, once you’ve drilled down through the daily office into particular readings. It can easily take 4 or more clicks (the actual number will change based on where you are and what you’ve read) to get from a reading back to the canticles.I sincerely appreciated the prior version of this app, for so closely following the print BCP, and for its readability. This version, even with a few nice new bells and whistles, is a serious step back in terms of just cleanly presenting the BCP in an electronic way.TEC does very much need an electronic version of the BCP. And, it needs to be much better than this. I hope significant resources are committed to improving this product.

I have used this app for a number of years. I find it to be a good app for finding the lessons of the day and going directly to them, but there are several issues. 1st - if i am leading worship from the eCP, I really need to know the page numbers to tell the congregants who are following in the BCP. It would be helpful to be able to enlarge the print for my aging eyes. 2nd - I really like that the collect and lessons are given for the Lesser Feasts and Fasts days, but I would really like to have the background blurb for the saints given so I don’t have to bring along the hard copy to share the information if I’m leading a service for others. 3rd - in this last update, when you go to the lessons, or other prayers and return to the main service, it throws you back to the beginning of the service instead of returning you to the place you were, making you have to spend time finding your place again.

This latest subscription based revision to the eCP is a pathetic example of a successor being eminently less usable than the original. The initial look and feel, while very different from the original, is usable and has some advantages. However, the usability is seriously lacking.eCP used to be fluid to use and far superior to handling numerous bookmarks in multiple books. This version breaks all of that. I can still scroll easily down through a service (e.g. HE II) and there are hot links to the Collects, Lessons, Prayers of the People, Eucharistic Prayers, etc. But heaven forbid you actually follow one of those links because when you return (<-) you are thrown back out to the home page where you have to select the service once again and then scroll down to where you were. This gets even more convoluted if you should switch between portrait and landscape orientation as it appears that any intelligent navigation only works in landscape orientation. Significant shortcomings of the original have not been addressed, and sorely lacking are page number references for key items that would be immensely valuable for individuals who are using eCP within a group who are mostly using hardcopy Prayer Books. All in all, this woefully poor successor to the eminently fluid original eCP. I doubt that it is worth the annual subscription fee of $10.
