I’ve been using this app for about a year now and loving it, as I often work in coffee shops/sunny areas and needed something to increase the brightness of my screen. Last week my 1 year old MacBook Pro M2 16” screen completely stopped working (black screen).I took it to Apple repair (luckily I have the Apple Care + warranty) and they replaced the monitor. I don’t know if it’s 100% related since sometimes these things happen BUT since you are increasing the screen brightness above Apple’s recommendations, I would use with caution, only when really needed, and make sure you have the warranty.

This app deserves more praise. Make sure you have supported hardware before purchasing. I get a substantial brightness boost on my 16'' MBP M1Max. It's essential if I wanted to use my MBP outdoors in the sunlight and it great to just have a beautiful bright view while indoors. This truly unlocked the display hardware capabilities of this machine and I love it. It's HDR, but for the Finder and all the other productivity and creative apps one might use. HDR is no longer reserved for just the video content babrely anyone consumes yet, it's everywhere on the Mac when using Vivid. The difference is obvious. There's only one quirk in my experience (still 5 stars, though) and that's that I have to manually disable/enable when changing display resolutions or plugging in external display. Not a deal breaker though..easy enough to do from the installed contextual menu in Finder menu bar.

The app is really nice when it works. But, there are cases where if you close the lid of the MacBook it can sometimes be dim again. Using the hot keys to toggle it doesn’t work in this case. I have to end up going into Activity Monitor and forcibly ending the process. I have latest, and the release notes seem to indicate this bug is fixed, but it doesn’t actually seem to be fixed. I would rate this app 5 stars if it worked consistently.

On Macbooks its easy to have too many menubar items, such that this app's menubar item is hidden. In fact it happens so much that it's the first entry in their FAQ. The app should 100% include a Quit button in the always on top pop-up advertisement for the full version of the app. If you cannot access your menubar, you need to know about Activity Monitor to quit this thing, as there is no Dock item. Until that quit button is in there I think this app is very very dangerous, as noobs will get stuck with a persistent popup they cant get rid of, and a half bright screen, until they pay. Feels like an accidental dark pattern invented by people who probably use mostly bigger monitors where this isn't a problem. Very nice app otherwise. Bit pricey, but sleek.
