App was buggy for the first few months but I believe it’s working great now. I have truly enjoyed writing and receiving these handwritten letters. Though, I appreciate the option to also type them out when my hand hurts. The creativity of people never fails to amaze me. And I genuinely smile each time a letter received. It’s like opening a gift with each one. Some are fun and lighthearted and others are more in-depth and therapeutic. It’s seriously my favorite app on my iPad. I just wish more people used it - especially those who are closer to my age (mid 40s). Thank you for a lovely app, I’m absolutely loving and proud to be a supporter! My only issue is that I am getting the red notification count on the app icon and I can’t figure out how to clear it. The number just keeps increasing despite me opening the app and force closing it.

Artsy App I keep coming back to

I tried out this app on a whim and found myself using it as a sketchbook. Later when reminiscing about my friends or cousins I found myself wanting to write to them and ask about them - but not have a full fledged conversation that would last for weeks on end as we each reply days late and begin to dread our messages. This app made it perfect for me to be able to do that with old friendships - even if I lost their address to send them a real letter. Definitely recommend sending lettres instead

Love the app. A few small notes

I love this app and its concept. I’m having a lot of fun with my penpals. But I think the app is very new so there are still lots of improvements that can be made and I want to share this feedback in case it helps any newcomers. 1. The app frequently logs me out of my account, which causes me to miss notifications. Open it regularly so you don’t miss letters from penpals. 2. I sent my first expedited mail the other day, costs 3 stamps to send a mail instantly. Now when I write mail to that person, it costs 3 stamps and delivers 3 days later. This wasn’t written down anywhere in tips and FAQs. If I had known this I wouldn’t have done it… it’s like a punishment for both me AND the recipient. Major regrets and something to keep in mind. I wish I could reverse it because it was not worth it for what happened and I’m very disappointed about this.

Hello hello! Thank you for your kind words and helpful feedback. We ARE very new and are working tirelessly in improving the app and the experiences it offers. 1) We have heard of this issue from some people and have fixed it in our most recent update. Please update to the latest version and do let us know if your issue has been resolved. If not, please use the "contact us" button found towards the bottom of the "settings" tab so we can better assist you in resolving it. 2) We are incredibly sorry for the inconvenience. The way our stamps work is you need to apply/drop stamps depending on how far your lettre will travel. For example, lettres from Asia to Asia will cost 1 stamp but a lettre from Asia to North America will cost 3. With Express mail, you need to apply 2 additional stamps if you want to schedule a lettre or instantly send it - unless you are a subscriber. Subscribers get to use Express Mail without applying the additional stamps. The stamp requirement comes from the distance and has nothing to do with Express Mail. If you think this is a bug, please get in touch with us through email using the "contact us" button. We can better assist you once we have some more details. Thank you for your patience, support and understanding and thank you for staying with us
love it, but…

I love the idea of handwritten letters. Reading those open letters really makes me want to write one too. The only thing stopping me is that I’m a bit anxious about online interactions. If i can’t even choose what kind of people can receive my letters, I’ll always worry that someone who doesn’t understand me might send me a rude reply. So i’d really appreciate it if we could choose tags or limit who can see our open letters. I think people like me will feel a lot safer to share our thoughts here.

Hi there and thank you so much for such a thoughtful feedback! This is a great perspective that we appreciate and love! So much so that going forward, this will 100% be a point we consider when deciding on changes and enhancements related to the PenPal stack. We sincerely hope you will be able to see these changes slowly make their way into the app sooner than later (we update quite regularly). Till then, thank you so much for being a part of our journey and for this wonderful review! PS; Please feel free to "start a conversation" with any of the PenPal lettres you see in your stack; there's a button to start a conversation directly from the lettre view (underneath the 'heart' button). That way, you will know exactly who you're writing to. Additionally, you can always invite people you know into the platform using the "send lettre as an email" or an invite link! Not an excuse; just suggesting some potential options you might have missed!
Hello lovelies, twice in one week!? This one is a little different. No giant rebuilds, no architectural adventures, no shiny new feature. Just a bunch of small things we've been wanting to make better, a little music from Pippin’s Park Buddies and some much-needed polish across the board.
Here’s what’s new, the important stuff worth mentioning:
- Our (FIRST) Official Soundtrack: We’ve added a new card to the Post Office “Home” section for something a little special: our very own music album release! Tap it to see all the places where our music is available. Put on some headphones, grab your pencil and cozy up!
- Supporter Perks, behaving properly: The Daily Stamps and Monthly Stationery sliders found at our Post Office’s “Home” section now behave according to who is actually tapping them. It sounds obvious, but they weren't always quite this sensible.
- A smoother Post Office: Opening and closing the Daily Stamps and Monthly Stationery galleries no longer makes the Home screen behind them flicker, disappear, and download everything all over again. It’s a lot smoother now, making the experience a lot more… fun
- Unsend Mail gets its own look: Unsend Mail now has a dedicated paywall page and artwork instead of borrowing the generic one. Every feature deserves a little personality and weirdly, you people seem to like this feature way more than we anticipated!
- PenPal profiles got a little clearer: Interests and Languages now have an actual Edit button in their section headings. Previously, you had to know that tapping one of the existing chips was somehow the secret way to edit the section. We thought we could do better. The profile is also ready to scroll immediately when you open it, rather than taking a brief moment to remember what it was supposed to be doing.
- We’ve rewritten the one-time PenPal posting notice to make the important bits much harder to miss: PenPal lettres are public, replies aren't guaranteed, and Mailbox lettres are private. While browsing the PenPal Stack, we still highly encourage you to “start a conversation”; it’s the best way to begin a correspondence and you’re much likelier to get a reply! There’s someone on the other side of that lettre waiting for a response, exactly like you when you post a lettre to the PenPal Stack!
A collection of little things, little fixes, and little improvements that hopefully make Lettre feel just a little nicer to use.
As always, thank you to everyone who continues to write lettres, start conversations, report bugs, send us feedback, and generally make this strange little corner of the internet what it is.
And, of course, a huge thank you to the members of the Pippin Supporters Club. Your support lets us keep building Lettre independently, ad-free for everyone, and on our own terms. We genuinely couldn't do this without you.
Now go listen to our first music album release, write someone a lettre, and stay hydrated.
See you soon.
