Hello lovelies, twice in one week!? This one is a little different. No giant rebuilds, no architectural adventures, no shiny new feature. Just a bunch of small things we've been wanting to make better, a little music from Pippin’s Park Buddies and some much-needed polish across the board. Here’s what’s new, the important stuff worth mentioning: - Our (FIRST) Official Soundtrack: We’ve added a new card to the Post Office “Home” section for something a little special: our very own music album release! Tap it to see all the places where our music is available. Put on some headphones, grab your pencil and cozy up! - Supporter Perks, behaving properly: The Daily Stamps and Monthly Stationery sliders found at our Post Office’s “Home” section now behave according to who is actually tapping them. It sounds obvious, but they weren't always quite this sensible. - A smoother Post Office: Opening and closing the Daily Stamps and Monthly Stationery galleries no longer makes the Home screen behind them flicker, disappear, and download everything all over again. It’s a lot smoother now, making the experience a lot more… fun - Unsend Mail gets its own look: Unsend Mail now has a dedicated paywall page and artwork instead of borrowing the generic one. Every feature deserves a little personality and weirdly, you people seem to like this feature way more than we anticipated! - PenPal profiles got a little clearer: Interests and Languages now have an actual Edit button in their section headings. Previously, you had to know that tapping one of the existing chips was somehow the secret way to edit the section. We thought we could do better. The profile is also ready to scroll immediately when you open it, rather than taking a brief moment to remember what it was supposed to be doing. - We’ve rewritten the one-time PenPal posting notice to make the important bits much harder to miss: PenPal lettres are public, replies aren't guaranteed, and Mailbox lettres are private. While browsing the PenPal Stack, we still highly encourage you to “start a conversation”; it’s the best way to begin a correspondence and you’re much likelier to get a reply! There’s someone on the other side of that lettre waiting for a response, exactly like you when you post a lettre to the PenPal Stack! A collection of little things, little fixes, and little improvements that hopefully make Lettre feel just a little nicer to use. Wonderful people of this beautiful community, here we go again and this is a big one. We've spent a lot of time teaching Lettre how to fit the space it's given. Whether you're writing on an iPhone, resizing an iPad window, using Split View, Slide Over, or Stage Manager, Lettre now adapts its interface to you instead of asking you to work around it. And while we were in there, we rebuilt Drafts, cleaned up the writing experience, fixed a mountain of little things, and gave several of Lettre's oldest screens a proper rethink. Here’s what’s new, the important stuff worth mentioning - Lettre finally fits your window, any size: With full support for Split View, Slide Over, and Stage Manager on iPad, Lettre is no longer designed around one fixed screen size. Resize the window and the app follows along. The navigation adapts, sheets choose the right presentation, envelopes resize themselves, and your letters stay exactly where you wrote them. We've also basically unified navigation across iPhone and iPad with one navigation system that adapts to the space available. - Drafts got a complete makeover: Drafts are no longer a list of rows. They're now a lovely little grid of page previews, so you can actually see what you've been working on. With this upgrade, you can: Browse drafts in two or three columns depending on your window, Long-press a page to preview it, Select multiple drafts and delete them together and many many more small quality-of-life enhancements designed to make life easier. We also fixed a handful of draft-related oddities - Writing a lettre feels (even more) intuitive: The canvas and envelope are now part of one continuous writing experience. Going back from the canvas takes you to the envelope. Going back from the envelope takes you back to the canvas. Also, the canvas can no longer accidentally disappear because of an errant swipe. The writing toolbar has also been rebuilt to adapt to the width of your screen, with the tools you need most always close at hand and the rest tucked neatly into a “More” button when space gets tight. - The Post Office adapts too: Home, Stamps, and Papers now stay in sync no matter how you resize your iPad window. The Post Office's segmented navigation lives in the navigation bar at every size, and the featured carousel keeps its paging, fading, and zooming behavior through a resize because apparently, even stationery needs responsive design. This also applies for pretty much each and every asset in the app! - Better Age Restrictions: We’ve strengthened age checks for PenPals, with an additional system check during onboarding and when birthdays are changed (among other important safety features to help keep everyone safe) - A lot of invisible work & The Usual Suspects: Bugs and crashes from the last update, gone. Because, like Sisyphus, we persevere. We've also cleaned up a good deal of the machinery and oiled a lot of the cogs underneath Lettre, making things, more reliable, easier to diagnose, and considerably less haunted. We have an update for you, This update gives the Post Office a fresh coat of paint, makes regional pricing behave properly, and squashes a whole bunch of bugs that were making sign-in and browsing from the PenPal Stack more complicated than they should be. Here’s what’s new, the important stuff worth mentioning - The Post Office (Part 2 of 2): We've completely rebuilt the Stamps and Papers tabs to make browsing our stationery collection in the Post Office tab feel more like, well, browsing a stationery shop! Stamp and stationery packs can now open into their own scrolling collections, while smaller/older packs have been grouped together as cover cards so the Post Office stays tidy. We've also separated individual papers and envelopes into their own sections, added shimmer loading placeholders, and introduced a shared price pill across Stamps and Papers for a more consistent experience. While we were at it, we have also fixed some annoying pricing issues; Prices are now pulled directly from the App Store for your region, so you should see the right currency, symbol, formatting and price wherever you shop in the Post Office. - A more reliable log-in: This update contains a lot of behind-the-scenes work to make signing in and staying signed in much less error-prone. We've fixed a number of edge cases involving Apple, Google, and email sign-in, including getting randomly signed out, signing back in immediately after signing out, interrupted Apple sign-ins, accidental double-taps, Face ID getting stuck, and sign-in screens becoming unresponsive. Cancelling a sign-in should now actually cancel it, too. No more mysteriously disabled buttons requiring a force quit. We are hoping to see less and less of these pesky login/signup issues - PenPal stack enhancements: Our PenPal Stack also got a healthy number of under-the-hood upgrades this time around. The PenPal Stack is more resilient when things are slow, and pull-to-refresh works even while the feed is still waking up. We've also fixed blank or incorrect envelope thumbnails, which means scrolling through your stack of PenPal lettres will now feel a lot smoother than before. - Under-the-hood: Beyond the Post Office and PenPal stack, we have also made some improvements across the board; (including but not limited to) → pinning Lettre's dates to the Gregorian calendar, improving sign-in diagnostics, fixing duplicate guest credentials, and cleaning up a whole bunch of noisy logs. In other words: fewer weird things happening and much better clues when something does. - The Usual Suspects: Bugs and crashes from last time, done and dusted! Well, we are here with one of our bigger updates and this time: The Post Office just got its biggest makeover yet! Let’s dig in - The Post Office: Introducing the all-new Post Office tab, making it easier to discover everything happening in the Post Office in one place! A redesigned navigation with a floating section switcher for Home, Stamps, and Papers makes the entire experience a lot more vivid. From beautiful new featured banners with swipeable cards, collectibles and featured items all the way to a brand-new Monthly Stationery section so you can browse the month's paper packs more easily (the shuffle button is still here!!), this is the biggest “makeover” we did so far. Consider this a love lettre to Apple (notice us pls!) - New Stationery: We are dropping TWO new sets of envelopes, now available at the Post Office! We bet you will LOOOOVE them! - New Artist Collab: Fresh set of stamps anyone? We got you! - A small but significant tweak: We also gave the PenPal posting notice a much-needed upgrade. What used to be a small popup is now a proper illustrated modal that better explains how PenPals work. We made this change for two important reasons: 1. PenPal lettres are public: Unlike the lettres in your Mailbox, anything you post to a PenPal region can be read by anyone browsing that region. Please avoid oversharing personal or sensitive information in these lettres. (FYI: once you start a conversation with someone though, this does not apply as those lettres live in your Mailbox, 100% private). 2. Replies aren't guaranteed: Posting to the PenPal stack is a great way to share your thoughts with the community, but there's no guarantee someone will respond. If you're hoping to make a new pen pal, we highly recommend using "Start a Conversation" instead; or doing both! There are plenty of people waiting to hear from someone just like you. - The usual suspects: Bugs and crashes, what even are they? We squashed them! Under the hood, we've also made the Post Office significantly faster by reducing unnecessary loading, improving scrolling performance, fixing numerous UI issues, and laying the foundation for future improvements. So to keep things from getting too out of hand, we’ve introduced a soft limit on how many PenPal lettres appear in your Stack each day. (Yes, we’re officially committing to the “PenPal Stack”. Farewell, “feed”, you have officially been fed to the sea of time) So what does this actually mean? Each day / every 24 hours, Pippin will deliver you a hand-picked Stack of fresh lettres to discover and start conversations with. Once you reach the end of your Stack for the day, you’ll have the option to join the Pippin Supporters Club; which gets you access to more PenPal lettres in your stack But the core idea still stands: instead of endlessly scrolling through infinite lettres, we hope people spend more time starting conversations, making friends, and actually writing back! - As you already know by now, members of the Pippin Supporters Club always get a little extra. What’s really cool is, it’s also “passwordless”: meaning there is no passwords for you to remember (or forget)! The best part? If you’ve ever used the same email across apple, google, or anything else… it’s all one account now! No duplicates, no “wait, which one did i use?” moments. We’ve also cleaned up how all of this works behind the scenes, so signing in (and getting started) should feel a lot smoother than before. - Pippin Supporters Club upgrade: For the members of the Pippin Supporters Club, the people who make this whole thing possible; instead of claiming a free stamp every week, now you can claim a free stamp EVERY SINGLE DAY! We have essentially 8X’d the freebies you can get out of this membership! This is just one of the many upgrades we have made and are making in future updates, just for you! Go ahead, start some new conversations with more clarity - PenPal stack/feed enhancements: To back up the flashy changes, we have also done a ton of work under the hood in improving the ways you see PenPal lettres in your PenPal stack of lettres. You will understand why we are starting to call it a “stack” instead of a “feed” (clue: we tweaked the ui and it’s not really a “feed” anymore). You can now unsend a letter if you need to. Protip: tap and hold any undelivered lettre for more options. Also, Cancelled lettres put your stamps back in your stamp book! 2) Reschedule Express Mail: Plans change. Timing matters. You can now reschedule your Express Mail with ease. Let’s dive in - Polish to Conversations / Threaded Messages: You can now stay on top of your lettres like a true pen-pal professional. We have ironed out most of the kinks and quirks of our latest Mailbox overhaul. Two things to note here, one: we have yet not decided what exactly to call it and two; there could still be some funny business here and there. Please feel free to hit the “contact us” or “report a bug” button(s) from the app’s settings tab any time you come across something you think needs our attention. Thanks to your reports, we get to improve the experience for everyone! - Express Mail, now with more control: Members of the Pippin Supporters Club can now Delete scheduled mail as well as recall scheduled Express Mail. Plans changed? Second thoughts? You’re in control. These are part of the growing list of “superpowers” that keep Lettre sustainable and 100% ad-free for everyone. - The usual suspects: Bugs old and new, squashed! We have also squeezed in some improvements and taken care of some critical annoyances. Some of the noteworthy ones: * Fixed issues where newly purchased or claimed papers and envelopes didn’t immediately appear in the asset picker if it was already open. * Fixed an iPhone issue where newly obtained stamps didn’t appear in the stamp slider after you ran out. * Resolved an iPhone navigation bug where canvas and envelope state persisted after sending a lettre and navigating to PenPals, occasionally breaking the Compose screen. * Various conversation and migration cleanups to improve stability and reliability. Hello lovelies, We’re back again and yes, this might be the longest stretch we’ve ever gone without an update, but we do promise you this: the wait was very much intentional and very much worth it! This update lays down some important groundwork for what’s coming next, and it brings not one, but two meaningful additions! We can't wait to share them with you. First and foremost: THREADED CONVERSATIONS is finally here! (we worked really hard for this) Say goodbye to a cluttered mailbox and the mental gymnastics of figuring out who said what (and when). With threaded conversations, your lettres are now neatly grouped by the person you’re writing to/from, making it dramatically easier to follow, reply, and actually *hold* a conversation. This is a huge quality-of-life improvement that brings clarity, continuity, and calm to your mailbox; exactly how letter writing should feel. We are also hoping this will improve response rates across the board as more people (should ideally) feel more comfortable continuing a correspondence. A little side note, for people who already use Lettre, the first-time you launch the app after this update, your Mailbox tab might take slightly longer to load up properly but we assure you it's a one-time-thing. People who join us after this update won't even know the difference. Secondly, we have "Lovebirds & Lettres": a little gift, on us To celebrate the month of love, connection, and handwritten affection, we’re releasing a free and limited-time giveaway for everyone! Claim two special sets of papers and envelopes, designed just for this season. Whether you’re writing to a longtime pen pal or someone new, consider this our way of spreading a little extra warmth. While you might not see a ton of new shiny things just yet, a lot of important work happened behind the scenes. These changes are laying the groundwork for the next couple of updates coming very soon, some of our most ambitious stuff (so far). Let’s see what’s new: - Seasonal FREEBIES: Claim a FREE limited-time set of stationery to celebrate the season, our way of saying “thank you” to EVERYONE in the community! As usual, once claimed, it’s yours to keep forever - New Post Office content: Our freshest set of envelopes; "Nihon’s Spirits", inspired by quiet winters, folklore and the soft magic of traditional Japanese motifs → now available at the Post Office for anyone looking to give their lettres a calm, wintry touch. - Subtle envelope screen upgrades and fixes: Some of you reported some buggy behavior on our envelope screen so we went ahead and added some upgrades along with fixes to some annoying issues. Now you can just tap a stamp to apply it “fast” if you are tired of dragging and dropping all of your stamps as well as some “quality of life” changes which should make the overall experience much smoother. Due to popular demand, we also have some planned upgrades which are also coming soon; adding more customization options to your envelopes! Stay tuned and watch this space! - Regular suspects: of course, we’ve been tending to the regular suspects. Among others, we fixed an issue where tapping the sticker icon multiple times on the envelope screen could send you backwards and we squashed a crash that could happen when sending a lettre. Everything should feel smoother and more reliable now. And as always, thank you for the bug reports, the kind notes, and the patience. Every update like this is possible because of this lovely little community. What’s next: coming soon in an update near you! - Conversations overhaul: Currently, its hard to keep track of conversations in your mailbox. Our solution to this: Threaded conversations which feel like real correspondence! An overhaul to our “Mailbox” tab, we want to make each conversation more intimate, easy to manage as well as navigate through. - PenPal feed enhancements: We are working on some under-the-hood stuff to make our PenPal feed more robust and powerful. Hope you stay with us as we work towards implementing those features! - Pippin Supporters Club upgrades: Members of the Pippin Supporters Club are the reason Lettre gets to exist at all. Your support keeps the lights on and allows us to build this little corner of the internet without ads, data selling, or any sort of corporate compromises. This one’s a big, thoughtful, quietly powerful release: the kind that doesn’t just add features, but reshapes how things feel. Nothing is being taken away from the core experience if you’re not a member. A new segmented control lets you switch effortlessly between viewing someone’s envelopes and their letters. Lets find out what’s new! - BLOCKING: Many of you have been asking us for a “block” feature and it’s finally here. Now you can block someone from ever sending you a lettre ever in their lives. The option is available from both the Mailbox and the PenPal profile. Lettre has always been a self-moderating community made up of some of the kindest and most thoughtful people on the internet. We have relied on the “Report” feature so far to keep our space safe from hate, bigotry, and discrimination: we are proudly intolerant of intolerance. Your vigilance and care for one another make this community what it is and it’s thanks to that spirit that adding this feature made sense now. Please let us know what you think and how we can improve it further, we love hearing from you. - FRESH STAMPS!: We are dropping not one but TWO new stamp sets with this update! Go check out our Post Office and see for yourself! We bet they will impress - iOS 26 polishes: Following our last iOS 26 update, we’ve added new refinements and subtle touches throughout the app to make everything feel more coherent, fluid, and delightful to use - Sign-in/Sign-up bugs: We know some of you have run into pesky login and signup issues. Here are some of the “bigger” items for this update: - Tweaks to the Post Office: We got a little tired of the Poster we had for the Pippin Supporters Club, so we replaced it with a fresh new poster! - Notification bugs: Fixed an issue where the notification badge count on the iOS homescreen wouldn’t update correctly. - Misc improvements: We took care of some bugs and crashes here and there; things are a lot more stable and faster than last week. Let’s get to it! - Say hi to Dexter: Our newest member of Pippin’s Park Buddies is now available as a fresh set of avatars! Dress up your PenPal profile in style. - Onboarding, unblocked (for good we hope): We fixed a pesky bug where some folks got stuck in the PenPals onboarding at the “interests” step. You can now breeze through and start meeting new friends without detours. - Notifications behaving themselves: The notification permission prompt will now stop popping up every single time you open the app. (It was excited to see you, but we told it to calm down. It should be in its best behavior going forward) - Sign-in issues? We’ve got your back: If you ever run into trouble signing in, you can now email us straight from the error alert. This creates a support ticket and helps us help you: no login required. This should streamline reporting some of the “rare”er bugs so we can squash them faster and with more precision! We heard you. - Smarter, smoother login system: We gave our sign-in logic a complete refresh. If all goes well (and they will; we hope), you'll notice fewer weird logouts and mysterious upload errors. Our overhauled system should be faster, better and more reliable than ever before! - Upload errors? Not anymore: A major tune-up under the hood to make your uploads more reliable and robust, especially during background launches and if you have flaky connections. - Other geeky things (you don’t need to worry about): We reworked some of the behind-the-scenes magic to make things faster, more secure and less error-prone. There’s a lot of ground to cover today so without wasting a moment more, let’s get to what’s new! - Frames for PenPal Avatars: Your PenPal profile just got an upgrade! Members of Pippin Supporters Club can now add frames (starting with a few, a lot more on the way) to show off some extra “schweg” on their PenPal profiles. Go try it out and let your PenPal avatars stand out better than before (without getting obnoxious) - Advanced Filters - City: Looking for PenPals a little closer to home (or just really into Parisian poets)? Introducing “City” Filters -> you can now filter your PenPals feed by Cities! Don’t worry, people who wish to remain anon will stay anon; we don’t snitch - Visual tweaks: Some subtle visual changes here and there; think cleaner layouts, italics where they actually belong and shiny new "Supporters Perks" badges to mark perks just for our beloved Pippin Supporters Club. Now it’s easier to spot what’s free and what’s supporter-exclusive. Everyone wins. - Better diagnostics: When using the “contact us” button (found towards the bottom of the Settings tab), now you can share better quality diagnostic information which will drastically improve how we discover and address bugs / errors in the future. Huge thanks to everyone who’s ever reported a bug; seriously, you’re helping us build something better for everyone. Keep ‘em coming.
