What's new • TapWriter Pro now speaks German and Japanese: the whole app – setup, menu, Settings, Help and notices – follows your Mac's language. • Pick the language yourself: Settings › General › Language switches between English, German, Japanese and the system language at any time, no relaunch needed. • The website is in German and Japanese too, and Help, Contact and Privacy open in your language.

• Make your own sounds: add recordings of a key press and TapWriter plays one at random as you type. Give Enter and Space their own sound if you like. Silence at the start is trimmed and long clips are shortened, so every key feels instant. • Your sounds sit right next to the built-in ones, marked with a small badge, in Settings and in the menu bar. • Hide the sounds you don't like: right-click any sound, or use Edit list in Settings. Hidden sounds leave the menu, and Shuffle only picks from the sounds you keep.

• If the app ever quits unexpectedly, it asks whether to send us a crash report, so we can fix it. Nothing is sent unless you agree.

What's new • Smart suggestions: if you keep typing during a call or while music plays, TapWriter offers to pause your sounds at those times. If a mute option keeps cutting your sounds in and out, it offers to turn that option off. Every suggestion has "Don't ask again", and Settings › General › Tips brings them back. • "Mute when other audio is playing" is more reliable: it no longer pauses your sounds by mistake when another app reacts to TapWriter's own key sounds (for example an equalizer, volume booster or headphone app). • When TapWriter pauses for other audio, the menu and Settings now name the app that's playing, such as "Paused while Microsoft Edge is playing audio". • New installs start with every mute option off, so you hear your keys right away; your own settings are unchanged. On macOS versions before 14.4, Settings explains that "Mute when other audio is playing" can't reliably tell other apps' audio apart from TapWriter's own sounds.

• Respect Do Not Disturb (optional): turn on "Mute during Focus" in Settings › Behavior or in the setup guide, and TapWriter stays quiet while Do Not Disturb or another Focus is on. The menu bar key and the menu show when a Focus is pausing your sounds, with a link straight to the setting. • Switching tabs in Settings now always starts at the top.

• Choose where key sounds play: send them to your headphones, speakers or display – in Settings, from the menu bar or in the setup guide. When that device has its own volume, a second slider sets it right there. If it's not connected, TapWriter uses your Mac's default output and switches back when it returns. • A fresh new look: a new app icon, and a new menu bar key that matches it. • A live menu bar key: its waveform dances and glows as you type, so you can see TapWriter at work. • Always know why it's quiet: when sounds are paused – during a call, while music plays, outside your scheduled hours or in a muted app – the menu bar key shows why, the menu and Settings explain it, and Settings points out the exact setting responsible. • Floating notes (optional): little musical notes drift out of the menu bar key as you type. Turn them on in Settings › General. • A roomier setup guide, with new Appearance and Options steps. The sound preview stays in view while you browse the sounds. • Settings › General groups the startup and appearance options, and the key sounds volume is labeled so it's never mistaken for your Mac's volume. • Help is one click away: "Need help?" in Settings and Help › TapWriter Pro Help (⌘?) open the new Help section, with Contact Support and Send feedback. • A redesigned About window, in the same dark style as Settings. • Quitting from the Dock now lets you keep TapWriter running in the menu bar instead. • The menu bar menu opens faster, closes instantly and always responds to the next click. • Fixed: update notices for newer versions and the "Rate" link now work reliably.

• New: "Same sound for every key" in Effects - prefer one steady key sound to the row-by-row variation? Turn it on. • Fixed: on Hebrew and other non-Latin keyboards, every key played the same sound. Each key now sounds like its own key, in every layout. • Fixed: keystrokes occasionally dropping out while typing quickly. • Spatial audio now positions keys correctly on all keyboard layouts.

New sounds • 21 new keyboard sounds, recorded from real mechanical keyboards - 37 in total. Deep and thocky (Thock, Velvet, Crisp, Plush), sharp and clicky (Clack, Snap, Tick, Spring), or smooth and quiet (Silk, Ink, Suede, Hush), plus classic switch flavours in both bright and mellow keycap variants. Improvements • Every sound is now level-matched, and noticeably louder at full volume - some of the quieter sets gained a lot of headroom. • Keys now sound consistent with their position on the keyboard: the same key sounds the same every time, and different rows differ slightly, the way a real board does. • Typing fast no longer swallows keystrokes. Holding or hammering one key now plays every press instead of occasionally falling silent. • The sound list opens already scrolled to the sound you're using, both in the menu and in Settings. Fixes • The menu-bar icon no longer stays highlighted while the menu fades away. • Fixed a notice about the menu-bar icon being hidden that could appear over full-screen apps. • The same notice now correctly appears when the icon really is hidden, including when it's tucked behind the notch. • Added an About link in Settings.

Fixed: the "icon is hidden in the menu bar" alert could appear incorrectly while a full-screen app was active (e.g. watching a video). The check now waits until you're back on a desktop with a visible menu bar.

This is a big one - a fresh look, new sound options, and more control over when and where TapWriter Pro plays. A new look • Redesigned from the ground up, with a quick setup wizard on first launch. • A new menu bar popover - pick sounds, set volume, and shuffle in one place. • Settings reorganized into clear tabs: Sounds, Behavior, and Startup. New ways to sound • Spatial audio - each key is placed across the stereo field for an immersive feel on headphones. • Natural typing - subtly varies each key's volume so it never sounds robotic. • Shuffle - let TapWriter Pro pick a fresh sound for you every few hours. • All 16 themes got new names to match their character. When and where it plays • Quiet hours. Set a time window when sounds should play - or pick hours when they should stay off. Great for evening work or shared spaces. • Auto-mute during calls. Sounds silence automatically whenever your microphone is in use - Zoom, Teams, Meet, FaceTime, Discord, and anything else that records you. • Mute with other audio. Keystrokes stay quiet whenever another app is playing music or video. • Per-app rules. Mute keyboard sounds in specific apps, or pick a handful where sounds play exclusively. Add and remove apps right from settings. • Menu bar toggle. Turn sounds on and off with a single click. • Hide the Dock icon. Run TapWriter Pro purely from the menu bar if you prefer. Action required - new permission After updating, macOS will ask you to enable TapWriter Pro under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring. This is the permission Apple designed for apps that need to detect keystrokes, and it replaces the older Accessibility permission. Why the change? Accessibility access is intended for assistive technology - reading screen contents, controlling the UI. TapWriter doesn't do any of that; it only needs to know when a key is pressed. Using the right permission keeps your system more secure and brings TapWriter in line with Apple's guidelines for the Mac App Store. The previous Accessibility toggle is no longer needed and can be turned off. Same recorded samples you love - now with more ways to make them yours.

New main window - TapWriter Pro now opens a full settings screen on launch, so setup is instant and everything is in one place. Accessibility setup guide - A step-by-step guide walks you through granting the required permission, with a direct link to System Settings. Status at a glance - The main screen now shows whether accessibility access and sounds are active, with one tap to fix any issues. Hide the menu bar icon - Prefer a clean menu bar? You can now hide the status bar icon and open TapWriter Pro from Launchpad anytime. Smarter menu bar - The status bar icon turns red when something needs attention, and the menu is cleaner with a standard Preferences shortcut (⌘,).
