FableAI is a text RPG where you play the hero and an AI narrator runs the story. Type what your character does or says, and the narrator writes what happens next. The narrator draws anime-style pictures of the scenes as you play, and if you turn on dice rolls, risky moves get a d20 roll. Pick one of 5,000+ adventures or describe your own world in one sentence, then play alone or with up to 8 players in the same story.
HOW A TURN WORKS
• Choose DO or SAY and type your move. Talk your way past a guard, steal the captain's map, or ask the innkeeper why the town is empty.
• Want a nudge? Tap one of the suggested choices, or ignore them and write your own.
• Turn on dice rolls and the narrator rolls a d20 when a move could go either way. A failed roll is often where things get interesting.
• Not happy with a turn? Retry it, undo it, or tap Continue and let the narrator keep going.
WHAT A TURN LOOKS LIKE
You (DO): I slide the stolen key across the bar and ask the innkeeper who else has a copy.
Narrator: She doesn't pick it up. "Three people had one," she says. "Two of them went missing. The third just sat down behind you."
PLAY WITH FRIENDS
Up to 8 players can share one story. Everyone plays their own character, and the narrator works each move into the same scene, so a heist or a rescue goes differently with every group. Run a one-shot on a Friday night or keep a campaign going for weeks.
5,000+ ADVENTURES, OR YOUR OWN WORLD
Fantasy kingdoms, space stations, haunted houses, isekai worlds, heists, detective cases and everyday life. Play adventures other players have built, or type one sentence, like "a kingdom of floating castles guarded by an old dragon", and start playing it right away.
BE ANYONE
Play a knight, a smuggler, a starship pilot, a detective on a night train, or yourself. Nothing is scripted: you decide what your character says and does, and the story goes from there.
MEMORY YOU CAN SEE AND EDIT
Story Cards and Memory Fragments hold the names, places and events the narrator should keep in mind. You can see, edit and delete them, so you decide what it remembers. Some memory features need a paid plan.

If you grew up on text adventures and gamebooks, or you run tabletop campaigns, FableAI will feel familiar, with an AI as your game master. Play a short solo adventure on the bus, or a long fantasy campaign with your group.

So I generally think the game is great. But I do have a few issues. 1. Sometimes if it’s a long response or it has to do with explaining things like what items you found it will either cut off or say something like here are the items and then there won’t be anything after that. 2 I don’t like that sometimes I have to ask the same question different ways to get the response I’m looking for. 3 it would be nice if the actions didn’t literally cost 1/3 of the free gems given each day. Instead of each action costing around 40 gems, maybe cut it down to 20? I don’t mind having to watch ads to get more gems either but maybe a boost in that as well since watching the ads generates money for the developers. Other than that I truly do love the freedom the game offers

Overall a very great AI and roleplaying game aside from the fact that everytime you run out of gems you have to either watch a ad to get a extra 50 or 60 gems and then those gems only last about 6 to 7 actions or messages before running out and making you watch another ad for rinse and repeat also the AI will not always let you do exactly what you want Example: You’ll tell your commanding officer in a adventure created by someone that you lost the enemy and should be able to wait a few hours until backup arrives fableAI sometimes may say Suddenly the alarms blare as enemies close in after you just told your commanding officer you guys should be safe for a while i don’t know if its a certain storyteller out of the 5 you can choose from or just fableAI doing it and sometimes it’ll even say OOC and begin to explain how your story doesn’t make sense which is also like bro don’t be telling me how to write my story FableAI other than that i think the gem problem should have a solution i don’t know a solution for it but they run out quickly and waiting ten hours for a refill on gems just to get only 25 messages or actions is not worth it but honestly the AI is kinda quality and the AI will make a pretty entertaining story with you aside from telling you sometimes how to control your story or going against what you say somewhat lastly sometimes FableAI will repeat what you say it’s not a bad feature but sometimes it’ll funk up and say things that are kind of irrelevant after you’ve already said what you meant.

I like the app a lot. Full of potential. Still a real work in progress. Some of the menus don’t scroll properly and it can make certain action’s difficult to impossible. The narrators concept is a fantastic way to differentiate AI complexity and story telling ability. The lack of an unlimited play model and a subscription model is needlessly frustrating and predatory! This needs to go to a yearly model at the very least. In very aware of server costs but $30 a month for unlimited would be a blatant ripoff, but for it to not even be unlimited is just insulting. I really enjoy the time I have spent on this app, but this is unacceptable. Also the developers sent a request mentioning “an unusual amount of one star reviews” but we both know that you know your awesome app is getting that negative attention because your trying to paywall content that isn’t worth the asking price and you are trying to gamify your predatory habits. This should be a 5 star review and it will be the second this nonsense is dealt with. And this isn’t about operating costs! Not when you are asking for these kind of prices! Update - I have now encounter over 20 instances of the app responding to a prompt with “here is your request or here is the information -“ and then it is a blank screen with nothing, but it still charges you gems. This is not something worth paying for! You do not get your gems back if it it fails! No safety network in place for this occurrence!

Memory and stereotyping

If I were to describe the ai, it would be that guy who, no matter how you treat them will keep pushing your buttons until you want to harm them. I have played this for awhile across many different stories. The largest failure the app has is memory. It gives you multiple choices for narrators, with the higher gem count one’s having a better memory. Sadly, the best narrator has only about 30 interactions before it forgets and takes you on a tangent. You can interact with the narrator and get it back on track but it will turn the mistake into an npc error, or just leave the error followed by a new iteration leaving as part of the story. As such it will make the mistake again and again. It has narrator notes and story cards for you to help it, but it often ignores them. It also has canned stereotypes instead of dynamic characters. Examples, a ‘viking’, or a ‘soldier’ will be burly, obtuse and unbathed. A clandestine meeting will always be at the abandoned mill at the edge of town at midnight. Come alone. If there is a character named Arin, he will be the bad guy almost every time. There are scores of these canned plots. Your personality when interacting with the ai often molds it’s personality, like a sociopath trying to blend in, can quickly become retaliatory and petty, or hyper friendly and bountiful.
