Run Stats: Analysing Your Private Running Journal
Run Stats is your complete running journal, designed to help you understand your performance over time. It was created to go beyond basic metrics, helping you see the bigger picture and discover what truly impacts your runs.
Track What Matters, Your Way
Whether you use an Apple Watch, a Garmin, or no device at all, you can log every run. Go beyond miles and pace to record the details that are important to you:
- Running performance: All of the usual stats on your runs and conditions
- Detailed Journals: Add notes on how you felt, where you ran, and any discomfort you experienced.
- Hydration & Fuel: Easily track if you ate or drank during your run to see how it affects your performance.
- Your Data, Your Photos: Add pictures to remember your favourite runs and create a complete record.
- Visualise: See your running locations on a map and track your personal bests.
- Connected Insights: Link your runs to other factors like sleep and log other workouts, such as strength training.
- Seamlessly import data from Apple HealthKit, with support for integrated apps like NRC, Runkeeper, and Garmin. If you have an Apple Watch, you can quickly capture post-run information and create custom workouts.
Personalised
Since everyone has their own favourite style, you can personalise the app's colours, choose different journal summaries and use dark mode.

1.22 07/10/2025
NOTE: This version includes a change to the structure of the data stored by the application, adding timezone and resting heart rate to journal records. This will cause a resynchronisation of iCloud data as records are re-evaluated. Depending upon the size of your Run Stats data you have created this will cause network and battery use for a short period when you update. For this reason I recommend to perform the update on a suitable network connection with a suitably charged phone. In tests a 4GB data transfer completed in the background in around 15 mins.
New features:
- added capture of timezone for display in journal in time recorded.
- added resting heart rate to running journals for more insight into your running. Value will auto populate from Apple Health if it is available on editing a run.
- added weekly volume and resting heart rate comparison chart.
- added a new look to analysis

(iCloud synchronisation can also be disabled through the iPhone's Settings - iCloud - Saved to iCloud - Run Stats if you don't want to save to iiCloud.)

- Added improved map processing to handle large scale views and earth's curvature.
- Remove multiple sleeps if added on a single date.

- Supports greater photo resolution control so size of iCloud data use can be controlled. Values can be tuned by advanced users in Settings Advanced Data.

- Background fetch of sleep data on the app becoming active to improve available data for analysis.
1.19 05/12/2025
Four new major capabilities:
- For Apple Watch wearers a new app. This enables quick post run capture of mood, gear, hydration, fuel and any aches. Just start the watch app after your run and click through the same items as used on the main app. Then later when you view the new journal entry in the app key data will have been populated.
- New logging of menstrual information to track how this impacts your running. Enable this in the Settings tab to start adding information to your runs.
- New iPad specific views. An entirely new look to Run Stats on the iPad that is selectable through Settings - Show iPad and Mac Analytics View to switch between the choices. Data is replicated via the Apple iCloud to your iPad (and Mac) from your phone. If you don't want to replicate data you can disable the app from using the main Apple Settings App - iCloud - Saved to iCloud - Run Stats. You can also select to just transfer data when not on a mobile network using the Apple Settings App - Apps - Run Stats - Mobile Data.
- In companion app - New Mac views. Although access to Apple Health Data is not available on the Mac, this provides a view of your journals and analytic views. It uses the same views as for the iPad. Look for the app in the Mac App Store and install it after using this app. If you don't want to replicate data you can disable the app from using the main Apple Settings App - iCloud - Saved to iCloud - Run Stats. You can also select to just transfer data when not on a mobile network using the Apple Settings App - Apps - Run Stats - Mobile Data.

This enables basic analysis such as volume, pace and distance with minimal effort. This feature can be enabled or disabled from Settings using the Automatically Add Workouts to Journal toggle.
- If a purchase has been made and a run includes a location a call to Apple's weather service is made to get the local weather. If not you can manually enter.

- Added a new view to pace analysis charts to show sleep debt v/s pace. Whilst every person is different this view as you add more and more running journal helps to build a picture of your runs.
Improvements:
- Measurement system was based on the personal settings value in language and region. You could always overrule this temporarily (in settings by switching to metric for instance). Now if you do this the value is maintained.
- for workouts that are recorded by Garmin the first measurement of the day merged into workouts, causing the pace graph on the Workout to show a long period of zero pace. This is now corrected.
- in the analysis pace view a small change to indicate charts that add more value as your running journal builds data.

- Accuracy improves as you add more to your journal!
Bug fix for detached location runs causing a loop while the map resized continuously.
