Running on a 13 Pro. Modern iPhone screen size and quality paired with 3x upscaling and a PlayStation Backbone controller have created the ultimate PSP experience. Games run perfect, even when upscaled, and look far better than my 15 year old PSP 3000's LCD- which I think looks great, for the record- ever did. The Backbone was seamless to get working, all I had to do was remap start and menu (which was the controller's fault for having a menu button that requires an app to be functional), then turn off on screen controls, and I was ready to go. With the games I play, the hit on my battery is minimal. I lose between 5 and 10% in 20 minutes depending on the game, and the phone doesn't get too hot. I mainly play racing games like Gran Turismo and Burnout, alongside some action games like THUG2R and GTA Chinatown Wars, so I don't know how your battery life and temps will look if you play more CPU demanding titles. Getting ISO files from my physical game library was complicated, but worth it as I am not interested in catching malware from sketchy websites, but getting them from my computer to the app was extraordinarily easy. I simply added the ISOs I had legally backed up from my UMD collection to iCloud, then moved them to the PPSSPP folder on the phone, and just like that, they were all right there on the home screen of the app, metadata displayed and all. Paired with the PS Edition Backbone, this is a perfect way to play PSP games in 2024, and is arguably better than the real thing. Long live the PSP.

Crazy how today we can say we run retro games on our phones through emulation. This one has to indeed be my favorite. But the fact that the dev only really makes income from possible donations and the paid version which almost no greedy fool would buy… Scares me, as it cost money to keep apps on the App Store, might not be a lot but it does add up in the long run. Crazy how I’m suggesting this but Dev needs to add ads in this free version just to keep a flow of income. Not pop up ads but maybe ads on the bottom on the screen that likely won’t affect gameplay but will still be there for you to click on. Just my thoughts, it also pushes greedy people who actually have money to get the paid version. Or lock certain features to the paid version only, like possibly controller support and higher resolutions for devices and maybe even multiplayer. These don’t affect gameplay but rather just give a better experience that should be a premium to those who pay for it.You should not feel guilty when adding features like this as everyone that downloads this version basically gets a full free premium service if they know how to use it

I love emulators, and when I saw that apple was finally allowing emulators I was so excited. especially once this app finally released i was even more excited. Now, personally I had no trouble I’ve emulated plenty of wii and ps3 games but from the standpoint of someone who has no idea how to play games, extract them or even how to get them to pop up in the menu. I can tell this would be decently complicated. complicated compared to emulators like delta but not as complicated compared to emulators like retroarch. But once you figure it out its amazing you can use a controller like backbone, customize the button layout with touchscreen, and play thousands of PSP games on a tiny phone. There Isn’t any more to say this is an amazing app 10/10

So far, this has been the best move for Apple. Allowing emu’s like Delta and PPSSPP on the AppStore is a big win for Apple and its users. Not only will it bring more people to iOS, it’ll bring more people to the older games we all played growing up. My only issue with PPSSPP is I can’t seem to find an option to change the buttons for my controller. Using RT for START and START for the Menu gets confusing when it says press START on the game and I press START on my controller and it takes me to Menu. Messed with it for a while before I gave up trying to change it because I had no luck finding an option for it. Other than that it’s a 10/10 app, highly recommend!
