On 16 masterpieces, the camera moves slowly from the whole painting to the details that matter — a signature, a face in the crowd, a boat on the far shore — and back again. Paintings without a route stay still, exactly as the artist framed them.

Swipe down to explore a painting detail by detail. Each stop has a short note written from museum sources. Swipe left or right to move between details, press up to see the whole painting again.
