Rest your eyes every 20 minutes with calm, beautifully redesigned breaks. Now with a 30-second heads-up, stand-up breaks, and pauses during calls, videos and Focus.
EyeEase20: Eye Break Reminder
Long days at the screen leave your eyes tired and dry. EyeEase20 makes the 20-20-20 rule effortless: every 20 minutes, it reminds you to look at something 20 feet (6 meters) away for 20 seconds – with a quick eye exercise to guide you.
It lives quietly in your menu bar, gives you a heads-up before each break, and stays out of the way during calls, videos and Focus.
_____
Why the 20-20-20 rule?
Staring at a screen for hours means your eyes focus up close without a rest, and you blink less. Short, regular breaks to look into the distance are a simple habit that helps reduce eye strain and fatigue. EyeEase20 makes sure you actually take them.
_____
Breaks that fit your day
• Heads-up: A small note 30 seconds before each break, with 5 More Min or Skip – so a break never lands mid-sentence.
• 5 More Minutes: Put a break off from the break window without skipping it.
• A fresh exercise every time: Each break suggests a different eye exercise and tip, from far-and-near focusing to palming.
• Break length: 15, 20 or 25 seconds.
• Long breaks: Optionally turn a regular break into a 3, 5 or 10-minute stand-up-and-stretch break every 1 to 2 hours.
• Straight into the break: No lead-in or waiting around – or turn on the "Get ready" countdown and "Well done" message for a gentler rhythm.
• Background dimming: Dims every connected display during a break, so the break has your full attention.
Smart Pause – quiet when you're busy
• Calls: Holds reminders while your microphone is in use (Zoom, FaceTime, Teams and more).
• Videos and music: Waits while media is playing.
• Do Not Disturb and Focus: Stays quiet while a Focus is on.
• Away from your Mac: Pauses after a period without mouse or keyboard input.
• Active hours: Only remind you between the times you choose, e.g. 9:00 to 18:00.
• Sleep-aware: Pauses when your Mac or display sleeps.
A break that comes due while you're busy simply waits and arrives once you're free.
Always at a glance
• Menu bar icon: A ring that empties as your next break approaches, with an optional countdown beside it.
• Quick menu: See your next and last break, take a break now (⌘B) or skip the next one (⌘S).
• Snooze: From 15 minutes up to tomorrow morning – and it keeps running through sleep and restarts.
• Break stats: See today's breaks in the menu and your last 7 days in Settings. Your data stays on your Mac.
Make it yours
• Remind every 20, 25 or 30 minutes, or switch reminders off.
• Choose a countdown voice or a chime, and set the volume.
• Decide whether breaks can be ended early, and whether they close on their own.
• Guided setup: A short wizard on first launch sets everything up; reopen it any time from the menu.
• Clear Settings, organized into General, Breaks, Sound and Smart Pause.
Built for the Mac
• A native, lightweight menu bar app with a clean, minimal design.
• Calm, beautiful breaks: soft gradient cards, elegant serif type and a slim line that counts each break down.
• Private by design: no accounts, and your break history never leaves your Mac. Crash reports are sent only if you agree.

Doesn't allow you to adjust settings. Application runs only in background. Can't drag app to trash because it's always running and can't quit it because it doesn't appear in the Force Quit menu. No documentation in the package to help you either. To uninstall, open activity monitor and then scroll to find the icon. You can't search by name because it's unnamed in Activity Monitor. Or better yet, don't install it at all.
Developer Response
Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the confusion. The application is designed to run in the background, and its icon should appear in the status bar at the top of your screen. From there, you can access the app’s settings or quit it via the icon’s menu. If the icon seems to be missing, it may be hidden behind other app icons, which can happen when many icons are present. This is why we include a notification when the app starts to let you know it’s running.Regarding the uninstallation process, the app can be safely quit from its status bar menu, allowing it to be dragged to the trash as usual. We appreciate your feedback about the documentation and will work on improving clarity for future users.Thank you for giving our app a try!
best eye-protection software for Mac
Alireza Elliyin
This is the best eye-protection software for Mac. You can really feel that something like this was missing on macOS.I hope the developers can release versions for iPhone and iPad as well.
Developer Response
Thank you - this made our day. iPhone and iPad are something we're looking at, though iOS makes it genuinely hard: apps aren't allowed to take over the screen the way the Mac version does, and there's no way to know when you're actually using the device, so a reminder can't reliably land at the right moment. We're still figuring out what a version worth shipping would look like. If you have thoughts, we'd love to hear them: support@comnet.co.il
New
• Open EyeEase20 again while it's running (Finder, Spotlight or Launchpad) and its menu opens, even when the menu bar icon is hidden behind the notch.
• When a window is open, EyeEase20 shows in the Dock; quitting from the Dock asks whether to keep it running in the menu bar.
